Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. Ok, I had to replay the beginning after I realized who Brianna was and you must be talking about Meg Hollar. I love when y’all get together! Hugs all around 🤗

  2. I loved the comment about homesteaders being proud of their food.
I grew cauliflower and broccoli this winter for the first time. I was in awe when I harvested a 3lb. 4oz. Cauliflower. I took pictures and showed them to anyone who would look. 😂
Also I love seeing the YouTube family that I watch come together, such a blessing to be a little bit a part of your celebrating Meg. 💖💙

  3. Thanks for sharing your so blessed to have such a wonderful group of girl friends with similar values and appreciation for the farm life! Great to see all y’all taking time for yourself and fellowship🙏🏻❤️🌻

  4. This was such fun! I think one of my favorite things about being part of the gardening community is that when (for example) a friend comes by with marmalade from her Seville orange tree I can give her a couple of pints of butternut squash for soup. I love the swapping! 💚

  5. I love how Jess says "I'm gonna go wash these beets off, oh! Look! An onion! We should get some onions!" Lol the beets never got washed 😂 this is so how my brain works too! I loved this video so much! I need girlfriends like that! I can't wait to see Meg's baby! Are you photographing the birth?

  6. I bought strawberries for my Greenstalk last year, and they were small, but they spilled all out of the Greenstalk into my raised bed, and there are large strawberries on them. If I can keep the slugs away… I love it that you have introduced your friends to us. Because of you, my homesteader families have grown. ❤

  7. Love watching the harvest. Maybe think about putting a cute tote or flower pot in each high tunnel where you can store gardening tools (trowels, harvesting knives, etc) to have handy. I've seen other gardeners set up old mailboxes in their gardens where they keep such things as well. We have a small shed near our garden, so our tools are nearby.
If you put row covers on your brassicas, you don't have to worry about worms as much. If you let the worms take over, you'll have even more moths & worms next season. 😱

  8. This video was so satisfying! Loved the grocery shopping on the farm. I’m in the PNW and we don’t have much stuff growing yet but this made me so hopeful. Your beets are beautiful.

  9. ❤❤❤ I am in soo much AWWW over this post, as EVER ONE of the great girls you are getting with are ones that I have followed for years.❤❤❤ I wish we had community closer where I live in Southern MO.😢 Now I am hoping yo hop on and enjoy on ALL the pages. Have fun and enjoy your blessings of friendships. Much love from Missouri. ❤❤❤

  10. Wonderful to see you have a girls time. Friends are the best time spent sharing yourself, your bountiful harvest. Have a great time ladies. 😊

  11. Don't worry about the wind .. this is a great Vlog .. Love seeing how happy your guest is being there 🎉

  12. Watching with my 4 year old and she said Jess is so pretty and I like her orange shirt and lovely dress and she’s sweet. She’s is very interested in your salad and cheese.

  13. It blows me away that you have time for friends and camping trips and girls weekends and your kids sports. I don’t understand the math.
That’s how God’s blessings generally work in my experience. Thanks for sharing all your adventures. ❤️

  14. An April harvest, the reward of a winter garden, putting up last season's harvest and the fruits of the animals. You really are an effective farmer Jess.

  15. I'm glad Hope is doing better! Amd it's not only homesteaders who are proud of their harvests; backyard gardeners are also proud. Last summer we bought zero produce from the grocery store. Enjoy your girls get together and your great food!

  16. I so love the title of this video. Grocery haul, but not dependence on the grocery store. Love that you are a producer, not just a consumer.

  17. I have had several batches of strawberry jam not set last year and this year. It is good as sauce on yogurt. But I didn’t change what I did and don’t know why it wouldn’t set. I am going to buy new Surejell and see if that was it.

  18. I snorted!! “ why I always swallow bugs when I’m tryna shoot a video I just don’t know” 😂😂🥰
