Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. "We bless you until next time." Parenting with purpose. Of all the things you grow, your children are the best. 💙💙💙💙💙💗

  2. Love a flitting around the garden Day! Here in Aussie-land we’re chopping and dropping the tomatoes and putting in brassicas and garlic. Happy Spring, Jess!

  3. The only true dichotomy between the sexes is the reproductive system.
Many things, like color preference, is skewed to one gender or the other. But it's not exclusive to the gender it is skewed toward.

  4. If you are soaking the GreenStalk layers every day before stacking, wouldn't it be good to add the fertilizer compost onto the top after those few days, then stack them, so the nutrients are washing away?

  5. Awwwwe! Hahahaha! “It worked out! You just got done cleaning up the garden you built for me!” I could say the same thing to my husband! Haha! Congrats you two!

  6. The Lord knows what he is doing. Every. Time. Here's to a ton of more fulfilling years together❤
Always kiss him goodnight and goodbye. You may never know when that last kiss will be.

  7. Hey Jess,A Very Happy Anniversary 🎉❤.
Im late but I've health issues.
    We are almost there,hurray!
This time this month ill be planting my Greenstalk, June first the Tomatoes go in🕺🎶💗.
Have I hope your ⚾️ season is going well Ben👍.

  8. I am a nurse for hand surgery and have seen some nasty infections from garden. We should all wear gloves but i am also guilty of bare handed gardening at times. It may also help with allergies

  9. Yeah, Grig and I knew we were getting married 3 weeks into our relationship. Then we waited a year to get engaged because we wanted to make sure it was real. (Spoiler: it was.) That was sorta what happened with my late husband too. We here hanging out, and the subject came up, and we agreed not to get married for at least two years. I really think when it's right, you know quickly. I also think when it's right, you don't mind waiting.

  10. Happy Anniversary!!!
This video was my favorite ending!
Those boys are precious ! Nice job momma! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🫵🫵🤍🤍🤍♥️

  11. Jess, sorry I didn’t finish watching the video, I went outside to refresh all my greenstalks. But I guess that’s kind of the whole point 😄

  12. I don’t care for the pink GS but if they come out with a French Lilac … yep I would buy a dozen! I have my outdoor chairs, some pots etc painted French Lilac because it’s such a calming color. The soft lavender with all the different shades of green in my garden makes me happy! Love your channel!

  13. Dang, I didn't think I wanted that pink greenstalk, and then you started unpacking it and ohhh gosh now I want it! I've already added two basket weaves to the 5 or 6 I already had. (REALLY thought I'd have been done after two but here we are =])

  14. Flitting around the garden? Isn't that how everyone gardens. Turn here a weed, there a little 🐦 to talk to. Move the hose, water that! Sit down enjoy that cup of tea. Now on with it! 🦋

  15. Oh man, I was on the fence about the pink Greenstalk but now I’m sold on it!!! I’m ordering one this weekend if they are still in stock!!! My sweet hubby bought me the red one for Christmas and it will be lovely beside that one ❤.

  16. I love "flitting around" my garden/landscape. It fills my soul also. As I "flit" I'm enjoying the spring, the birds, the ornamentals, the veggie starts, etc., etc. I'm 71 years young so my flitting has decreased with regard to how long my strength holds out, but it is still so satisfying because I get to leave behind all the confusion and chaos of everyday life. Flitting is AWESOME!!!! 🥰

  17. Jess, Pink has been my favorite color since I was 12 years old. I'm 63, (wow, that sounds old! Still feel like I'm 40) love the pink greenstalk, it will look perfect in your garden. you are right about pink, people either love it or hate it. Both of our daughters dislike pink! Haha, they roll their eyes at me when I see something in pink and buy it.
You and Jeremiah are a sweet couple, so nice to see that kind of love.
    Your boys are precious!
Best to you all from New Hampshire.😊😊

  18. How would you amend the soil in a Green Stalk that already has plants in it? I have one that I filled with strawberries roots last season that I'd like to add some nutrition to.
Thanks so much for all that you do and happy anniversary 💖

  19. Hey guys! I love watching your videos and would love to pay you and your farm / gardens a visit! There is a small gift involved. Have a wonderful Earth Day and Happy Mother's Day,….. coming up soon!

  20. Hey Jess (or anyone!) can you explain why seed packets always say to plant melons and squash in mounds? I feel like that never works out since the soil will wash away no matter how hard packed it is and the stems get all spindly and exposed. Loved seeing you just drop squash on a flat surface!

  21. I’m so with you. I have tried having a plan when I go out into the garden, but if I get out there and just start one task, my inner hummingbird comes out and I flit around from task to task. Lots of them aren’t on my to-do list, but I am way more productive that way. Fly on, hummingbird!

  22. Don’t by Bacto online 😂😂 I buy mine from a local feed store too & can get it for $13 I believe. I’m in SC as well.
