Roots and Refuge Farm: Will I miss another baby? (getting ready to leave) | VLOG

Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. I have cracked my eggs for scrambled eggs, put them in an airtight container and put in rv fridge so don't have to worry about them breaking or taking up big space.

  2. I do the northern way and the lazy way. I mix some pancake flour with water to make a fairly thick batter. Then open a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup and spoon the batter on top of the soup. I cook it for about a minute in the microwave. And Voila! I have chicken and dumplings.

  3. I expanded my hen variety so I could also have a colorful egg basket❤️ I just need more egg customers now!!

  4. Me, upon seeing the pantry: "Oh Jess, I'd gladly come help organize it for you!" As I sit in my hoarder's bedroom, in our dilapidated house. 🤦🏽‍♀️ It's the thought that counts though, right? 😬🤷🏽‍♀️ All this talk of a heffer, makes me think the calf will be a boy. I hope I'm wrong. 💜

  5. I may have missed this part in the video, but how do you store eggs in your panty without them going bad?

  6. 👁️ 🐄 🫵🏻 had 🎉

I Hope you had fun! LoL 😆
I just finished planting squash and zucchini seeds during the eclipse, it got pretty dark and now it’s raining 🌧️ and like Little Miss Hollar, I said Grow!
    ✌🏻

  7. Gosh Ben is so big now… I remember when I first started watching when y'all were in Arkansas and he was only 4 or so. All of your beautiful kids are getting so big and old!

  8. My girls are brown egg layers (only got 5) but they all lay different size and brown and some speckles, so pretty

  9. Sitting here watching this video eating a home cooked from scratch bowl of Chicken and Dumplings you inspired me to make yesterday lol❤❤❤

  10. Watching you work a farm makes me happy I left Searcy Ar. to join the Navy and make it a career. Farming is to much work … at least you have electricity and tractors and other machines. We had 186 acres on Joy Mtn. With a few mules and horses to pull the plow and other implements. Plus you don’t have to constantly chop wood to heat and cook with. You guys are way better at it than I was!

  11. I believe i remember you saying that Miah is a disabled military Vet. You should look into an Access Pass through the corps of engineers campgrounds. Youll get 50% off campground stays at any COE and theyre all over the country and in SC. You just need to show his paperwork showing hes disabled and youll get a card that doesnt expire. Its been life saving for camping!

  12. SUGGESTION:
Maybe one of your viewers is a professional organizer or maybe knows one that you could do a swap with them. Their organizational skills to help you get that pantry done and maybe some farm fresh produce, meat, eggs and/or milk. Just a thought. Cheers!

  13. Ok if she has a heifer, you should totally name her Hoping lol spawned by when you said "I'm hoping for a heifer" lol the way my brain thinks 😂

  14. How do you deal with kids not feeling resentment towards all the things you love, that makes it difficult to travel, and vacation? And that is a genuine question. I'm not at all being rude, but it is a personal hard thing in my life. I have had my children several times ask why we can't vacation and do things like other people. The garden and the animals, is a dream of mine. I don't push them to love it or do it with me. But it does influence the things that we can and cannot do. If I want to relax, I just go outside, they want to go to Disneyland😂

  15. This so resonates with me…I started my tomatoes and peppers and herbs 1 week before thyroid surgery! Plus we're bottle feeding 3 baby doelings(first time goat owners) and planted 2 beds of onions the night before surgery. Why did I think March was a good time to have surgery?! 😂 Now, almost 3 weeks later…I'm still trying to regain the energy I need to do all this. 😅😅 Did I mention we have only 2 garden beds built on this new property….out of 14. Gah! I'm an idiot.

  16. Jess as you were telling us about Jack having half dozen egg for breakfast I was eating my 1 fried egg breakfast on toast.😊 What an age different brings😂😅. Hope you had a wonderful time and did not miss the birth.

  17. If I lived on your property, I'd camp out there. I'd invite all of your friends out there to camp.

  18. It's kind of like cooking a holiday meal. I can spend days leading up to and hours the day of then sitting down to eat and an hour later it's over! I did that this last Christmas and enjoyed every minute. Ps you say camping and I think tents, sleeping bags, and dutch ovens over a campfire. 😉 🐸😎

  19. My husband was pointing at me the whole time you were talking about trying to do all the things in the few hours before you leave for a trip 😂. I am that person! I think she will have the baby after you get back!
