Roots and Refuge Farm: The Very First Market (And Why I’m Doing It) | VLOG

Fulmer Street Market: https://www.beulahroastingco.com/pages/fulmer-st-market

Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. You and the bald eagle made me cry!! I love the way u talk to us. Thank u Jess!! U r such an inspiration to me. Big time. Hugs

  2. I had a Golden Eagle fly along side of me on the hiway a few weeks ago. I get your excitement. I wanted to look at him but I was driving and traffic was busy.

  3. Hey Jess. Those cuffs are called gauntlets. It's a piece of armor that covers the area from about the wrist to about the elbow. They can be made from many materials, including leather and metal. Very cool 😎

  4. Congrats looks like a nice market, hope all went smooth with surveyor, kitty sure was being nosy when you were milking the goats,

  5. Watched an old video of yours today and you were showcasing Drew's goat head tshirt. I'd forgotten how beautiful it was. Might be time to bring that one back!

  6. Your other boys are so outgoing and happy. Why does Asher hide under his hair? He looks so unhappy. I have a grandson named Asher also. He is 6 tho. I know Asher’s gramma Kathy. She’s a precious friend.

  7. We are in south eastern NC and we host what we call “flock swaps” it’s like a farmers market with livestock, raw dairy, and homestead goodies. ❤ the community built is beautiful and life long. You are doing an amazing thing, there is no way it could be a flop. ❤

  8. I used to think bawled eagles were cool and majestic…. until I moved north, went to the dump and found dozens there eating garbage. 😂

  9. Things I would want to buy from Jess’s market tent: flowers, harvested seeds from the garden, transplants, holy basil tea concoctions, cowboy candy, and whatever chili crunch is!!!

  10. Dang Jess. If the wife and I could take a trip, I would love to be able to bring my Gilly suit with all my camera gear and sit out and wait for that balled eagle to show up and maybe get some photos of that. But instead of me coming down there you need to get you a photo blind and go set up one day and let it sit out there for a few days, so the eagle will get used to it and then go get in it one early, early morning and wait for it to show up and get photos of it lol. But that would be cool to take my 600mm and sit back from the pond and get some photos. Anyhow, hope to see some eagle photos on your channel one day, lol.

  11. Love to see this!! So inspiring, so many communities need to bring back farmer markets! We are moving from the city to a small town … waiting for our house to get finished (7-month delay… grrr) so hoping to start a small market garden and get the farmer's market started again around there. ❤

  12. What an exciting & wonderful venue you’ve created! I love that you got to see a sparrow & an eagle (we have lots here in Alberta, Canada). I think it was a sign that you’re doing great stuff for everyone! Blessings & thanks for sharing🤗🇨🇦

    Hey Jess!
I love a love watching a gorgeous eagle fishing in a beautiful pond. It's just such a gorgeous site to see! (Except for the poor fish! LOL!) ANYWAY…. Might I suggest to you to research your state and county regulations regarding what I'm saying here. Which is…….MAKE SURE THAT DOESN'T NEST ANYWHERE ON YOUR LAND!!! As neat and cool as it would be….. In my state, where where an eagle nests can then be deemed "PROTECTED NATURE LAND"! Believe me, you….Ya don't want that! LOL!! But like I said, please do your research. It may not be anywhere close to that in SC!
Thanks for another great video! Congratulations on your farmers' market! They're LITERALLY my absolute favorite thing to do!! HANDS DOWN! And ESPECIALLY with family!!!

  14. As with Bear, my babies are used to it i get them all other than say, going out come or dont. Only chance. Old house pets. I get it from an old gardener😊

  15. Amazing my lovely lady. I am so happy for you! You are reaping the rewards of sowing all that hard work.

I also want to say I LOVE the goats. When we have a bigger property I would be down to try a goat as our next animal. We have chickadoos in our suburban back yard and I love them. The neighbor boy my son is friends with has been coming over and asking if he can feed treats to the chickens. It's been awesome.

    Keep being a light.

  16. I've driven a school bus for 30yrs & have 2 pair of bald eagles with their offspring yearly on my route…. I understand the majesty your feeling. I get out & take pictures of them before picking up my first stop. The kids & I have named them Tony-Terry & Mitch-Mary 😊

  17. This made me think back to the first of your videos I watched when Miah was building your first garden beds and you were walking up and down giving your garden tour. I learned about tomatoes and volunteers and ground cherries and how chickens were your first desire. You have come so far and like your other subscribers have pointed out you took us with you! We might not be seeing the surveyor on our property but you can bet you can find gardens feeding families even if it’s lettuce out of a kiddie pool all over the place because you showed us it’s not impossible and real food comes dirty! Congratulations on yet another milestone!❤

  18. You happiness with the eagle was wonderful. I don't have an eagle but I do have a red tailed hawk that returns every summer for me to enjoy and enjoy I do. Congratulations on the market.

  19. Hey Jess!
Farmers Markets are my absolute favorite thing to do! Can I ask why you're not doing them on a Saturday or weekend though?? So many more people can be involved?? Just wondering. Thanks so much for sharing! It's so amazing to witness and be able to watch your dreams coming true!! Congratulations!!!🎉

  20. I think that’s great that you started a farmers market. I would like to get involved in the local farmers market where I live. I’m hoping to do that later this season. God bless you and your family. Duane.

  21. Seeing goats on your farm again feels so right … Like a missing piece has been returned to the picture ❤

  22. All the excitement!!! Not me over here. IT'S BEHIND YOU! THE CAT IS SNEAKING MILK! JESS JESS LOOK BEHIND YOU. LOL.

  23. I live in a small town we have 2 farmers markets. April to oct. We have a town square n it covers 1/4 of square on both sides of street. The other one is at other end of town. The town north of us has a huge farmers market with about 30 vendors. Town east has one. Then city ne has 2 or 3. So there are alot of farmers markets around us n it is great. We also have a junk n trunk once a month from May to Sept on sat nite from 4 to 7… like a garage sale out of trunk of car . People set up tables n just sell junk. So much fun. Has food trunks n music playing.

  24. Oh no..noticed your hand getting irritated again from milking..I assume. Hope it's just red an calms down because I feel your love of those goaties

  25. Animal reactions to something new on a yard always cracks me up 😂 the market looked amazing and seeing Beulah busy with customers made me so happy for you all! I can’t wait to see future markets 💙 also seeing the kids playing made my 20yr old heart happy as even compared to when I was a child kids just don’t play like that enough now 😊

  26. I know God calls us to not be jealous of others, But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little sadden I am too far to join LOL I am THRILLED for those who can though- I genuinely love it for y’all’s family and those going!!
