Roots and Refuge Farm: Introducing Our New Dairy Goat Herd (Goat Day- Part Two) | VLOG

Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. From one goat mumma to another, i have to admit i teared up. My cup is full most days with gardens, granbabies, chooks ( aussie for hens) BUT there's an almost holy moment in the stillness of milking a sweet natured nubian doe, warm fur against your cheek, sweet milk being let down… quiet chewing.

    I feel more complete.

My grandad always had a doe or two, from the 1930's onwards into my 20's – he was a 1906 model. He told me to always grow a garden, raise some fowl and have a good sweet 'poor man's cow' ( goat) to greet you in the dawn light… and he is still correct in his advice, a small block of land that sustains a household and in turn sustains the critters on it.

  2. Just seeing those girls love on you made my day. Your in your element for sure. Goats seem to be very "dog like" with affection. Enjoy your new gifts Jess.

  3. Congratulations on your new goats😊in your experience is a bottle fed goat a better goat to deal with as we have heard they can become too needy and demanding, and I know you’ve raised both so I would appreciate any feedback on this🤗🤗🤗

  4. Thank you for sharing this wonderful day with us. I’m so grateful for the blessings God gives us through our animals.

  5. The two that are posing the whole time for the camera crack me up. And then when the buckling jumped into the feed trough. He is too cute!

  6. What a blessing to see your newest arrivals! Looking at those sweet faces brought back so many memories of our 'goatie girls'. My son walked in while I was watching and said, "Oh, that one reminds me of Pumpkin!" (one of our former does) Thank you for sharing your farm life with us and filling the void of our now goat-less farm.

  7. Just wondering if y’all are experiencing a flea population explosion this spring? Here in costal Louisiana we are puney with fleas. Any suggestions for control? I’m in the city limits so chickens are out of the question unfortunately

  8. ✨️"Welcoming the goats on your farm is the best gift ever. T.U. for all your knowledge and the joy you bring to us.😊🥛☕️☘️⚘️

  9. I am so happy for you! Since I had Lyme disease I am hoping to recover enough to have goats again. Their milk is my favorite and it's very expensive to buy. Congratulations, Jess!

  10. So the baby doesn't nurse off the girls? How can that be, if so – is it that he just never learned to, or they won't let him? Just curious.

  11. Hollerin’ “yay Jess!!!!!” I’m so happy for you sister. My heart is so full seeing you in so much happiness. ❤

  12. Hey Jess, I think the black goat wants to be your goaty girlfriend! LOL. She is totally checking you out!🤣🤣🤣

  13. I can relate to feeling good about having "goatie girls" back on the farm again! We have been goat-less for 2 years and I pulled the trigger on three pygmy does. I did not realize how much I missed them until the first morning that I went to the barn and they started "goat calling" me!

  14. I am so excited for you!! I missed my goatie girls so much. I told my husband to go eat so I could watch you with your goats. So now it's time to go eat…until later… Love you, Jess…

  15. It’s beautiful to see goat back on the farm Jess. I can’t wait to hear about your adventures with them.

  16. Congratulations Jess! The absolute peace you are exuding with your beautiful goat herd is truly delightful!! I’m so blessed for you! ❤

  17. I admire the love that you and Miah show to each other. How sweet. 💙. And yes Jess you were like a kid in a candy store with your milk for your coffee! My heart is warm for you. 💛💜💚💙🐸😎

  18. Oh the joy on your face having milk in your coffee again!! Love that your dream has come true and you have been blessed with such awesome goat ladies and one gentleman!

  19. So sweet!!!! Jess reminds me of Anne of Green Gables when she squints and tries not to cry tears of joy! So sweet!!!

  20. I am so so happy for you, I'm so emotional and I can see you fighting tears multiple times when you're talking about having goats back… what a wonderful gift life has given back to you <3
