  1. Kaye, if you use boiling water to prep your soil, it will help with this issue next year. You started lots, so after sorting them, you’ll have plenty for the garden. Keep your chin up! You’re doing a great job! ❤

  2. Good Morning Kaye – Wow that's a lot of rain and a lot of aphids! After seeing all the bugs you had on your seedlings, I ran to my greenhouse to check all my plants. Those things can take over so quickly and do so much damage before you know it. I did not find any bugs but checked them all and moved them around as they are getting much bigger now. Most of my peppers have buds now but keeping them in as long as possible until weather improves. Hope you can salvage most of your plants but we always lose a few along the way. Have a blessed weekend and take care..

  3. Yes I do take my living room for a growing room, it is my first year that I haven't been fighting giants even my son buys me e studying that he can order for me ,love his heart! But this year I put my starting soil in the oven to sanitize it and it worked, I also live alone and I don't get any help with my gardening and canning getting to where it is very hard for me so I connect with you.

  4. I just upplanted/transplanted my tomato seedlings last night (into 3" pots). Yeah, I should have done it a while back.
Your anise and bee balm look great. Mine look like they're stuck in time. I seeded them back in March but I'm thinking they're slow to get going(?)

  5. The first thing aphids went after were my artichokes, the baby leaves mostly of course. Keep smiling Kaye! ❤

  6. I haven't started my seeds yet. This weekend, perhaps. I had always started too soon, so maybe I'll get the timing right this year 😊

  7. I had white flys and aphids something awful last year. Would the soil be okay from then for this year or do I need to treat the soil before I plant in that dirt?

  8. I don’t know about you, but I'm really tired of rain! The farmers cannot get into their fields, the small creeks and rivers are flooding. Of course, genius over here planted her elderberries right in the path of the flooding. And I cannot plant little plants in the mud! I have some calendula bigger than yours, and my last frost is in MAY! I might have gotten carried away! I'm so sorry about the aphids! They go into a basket with all of the other critters God made that I want to ask Him about. Like, "Why???" I know, I'll forget to ask when I see Jesus' face❤

  9. A good tip for tomatoes is to start them in solo cups, just half filled with soil. Then add more soil as they grow and you won't need to pot them into larger pots. They can last in there for 2 months.

  10. 11. Aphids are harmless to people but suck the vital juices from the host plant. So be gone with soap spray or heavy focused water spray in my experience. You also can often simply wipe the bugs off with a tissue on the seedlings. Not fun. By the way, I spotted an adult grasshopper on the opposite side of the property here this morning which I was surprised by. Speaking of surprised – I was shocked at the heavy rains we experienced back in TN after we'd first moved from Southern California years ago. Now, we barely get such here in AZ and mostly during monsoon in late July.

  12. Yup, seed soil sterilization with boiling water. Cool down and start your seeds! Rain or spray with a hose and you can knock off a lot of those aphids. And of course some Dawn dish soap water sprayed on the leaves can help. Try the water or rain first. 😊
