Ultx. We have all been watching the harvest and Gandy Garden grow. And today Aaron Walker finally reaped some of the reward with the help of an old friend. I’m reporting from Gandhi’s Garden where we’re witnessing a bountiful winter harvest. Despite the chilly temperatures,

The garden is full of life and with the help of Jim Gandy, we are harvesting some today, a variety of winter crops were harvested including two types of kale and Swiss chard. Is it the right time to harvest? There’s a judgment involved.

Timing is key. We look for signs of maturity such as firmness and color. Additionally, to ensure optimal freshness, we also consider weather conditions and forecasted temperatures. Mr Gandy has an easy tip to remember when it gets as big as what you see in the store, it’s time to harvest.

Every step is crucial to preserving the quality of the produce. If you’re not harvesting the whole plant, if you’re just gonna take a few leaves, this applies to lettuce, whether it’s cabbage or, or kale, you wanna take the outside leaves, clip them off first because in the plant grows from the inside out.

And so as you clip off the outside leaves, the inside leaves then become outside and more of the plant begins to grow. And the best part knowing these nutritious vegetables were grown right here at our station, Aaron Walker News 19 WLTX.
