Saving Seeds for Next Year's Garden in the Appalachian Mountains

This time of the year all the seeds I’ve saved from the summer garden are in a jumble and knowing Thanksgiving is coming always forces me to clean up the mess. Come along with me as I straighten up and store away all the seeds we’ve collected from our garden this year.

  1. Great video! I'm cleaning up my seeds that I've saved today as well! It's snowing here in Maine today, so it's a nice job for a day like today.

  2. I grew Armenian cucumber for the first time this year and will grow it every year. When the fruit is young it has a mild cucumber taste, but when it gets big it tastes like a melon. I even did a late planting in September (I'm zone 8b northeast Texas) and got enough to put up a few jars of pickles before our first frost. It's very productive, and pest or disease problems were minimal. If you haven't tried it, give it a try.

  3. Love your channel!! Always something fun going on here! "The Power of the Seed"
Collecting seeds is so rewarding! And AMAZING! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
    💕from Costa Rica

  4. I am currently doing the same thing cleaning out my windowsill getting all of my hollyhocks bachelor's buttons zinnias 4oclocks canna lilies bagged and labeled

  5. So you’ve got NICK NACK’S on your bar as well lol 😂so do we. Enjoyed watching Miss Tipper, nothing like saving seeds for next years planting season.
We are gearing up for Thanksgiving around here to. Thanks for sharing friend. 😇🙏🏻😇🙏🏻❤️❤️🍁🍂

  6. I love to grow, of all things, gourds. THey grow perfectly along our fence and even up into the trees! Also, Sun Gold tomatoes…yummy!

  7. That white cabinet in the back ground must have been real popular 80 or so years ago because we had one just like it in our kitchen, my niece still has it at her house. I save my tomato (heirloom) seeds and my cherry pepper seeds. I put them in a baggie and store them in my freezer, they'll keep for a lifetime that way.

  8. I save the little glycerin packets that come in various things you buy..shoes, purses, some medicine etc….if you put those on the bags it helps absorb the moisture and your seeds won't mold.

  9. Wow! Lots if seeds Tipper. You & Matt will definitely have to make more garden beds and less lawn come Spring.
Do you cook the different varieties of beans the same? Or how do you use all those varieties?
I love your videos, you all are good country folk. I feel blessed to share your life. God is good!

  10. I enjoy your videos. They are relaxing and I learn things. Dennis Morgan (not Dave Jones – I don't know how I got named Dave Jones by AOL).

  11. I have a bad habit of drying seeds in a little bit of this and a little bit of that and right now I have a bunch of different pepper seeds and at this point I don’t know if they’re hot or sweet lol I guess I’ll find out when they start growing but I always think I’m going to remember what is what… It’s a lie I tell myself often

  12. I’m glad I am not the only one that starts out so organized and then it all turns to chaos by the end of the season.

  13. Love all the tips you give us! I am new to your YouTube and I’m so glad I found you. Would you happen to have a recipe for salt risen bread? My husband loves it and says the ones I’ve bought just aren’t like the ones he used to get when younger. Blessings to you.

  14. I am enjoying your channels so much! I feel so peaceful watching you and your family. I rarely watch regular television, especially the news. I think some people are more sensitive about this than others, but it is too upsetting for me.
I am 67 and had a small garden with good success! Might make it bigger next year!

  15. Hey Tipper, I save all kinds too. I suffered a spinal cord injury, so I never got my garden in. I was still too cold here in Maryland. I really miss my garden. Maybe I can get someone to build me some raised beds next season, something I can access from wheelchair. Love everything you all do.

  16. You can Save a lot of Money by Saving your Seed for the Following Year! Enjoyed this Video Ms. Tipper! You Guys have a Blessed Day!

  17. I appreciate you sharing your mistakes. It's still educational lol🥰 I'm learning so much and it helps to know what can ruin seeds

  18. Really enjoyed this video and watching how you save your seeds. I save flower seeds and some vegetable seeds but I don’t do too much gardening anymore because I have degenerative disc and arthritis in my back and knees and it’s got pretty bad in the last few years. Then I broke my right arm and can’t even lift a gallon jug of water so, I love watching you garden. So nice that you have Corie to help you out.

  19. We need to get our seeds organized back in thier container. We have them scattered about, too.Even some in window sills. Its a great thing for people to share seeds with you.Have a blessed day.

  20. Do you use cash app? Someone is trying to get me to use it and says they are you… Is it you…. It's fine if it is but if not I wanted to let you know and not get scammed too thanks…. And I love this channel.

  21. Soooooo awesome to be a part of your life….ya'll are so very virtuous and beautiful through and through..ty for your dedication and love..🥰👍🤟✌🖐🤪

  22. Tipper your seed ben looks like chaos but it's really not, it is your style of organization. You do know where things are when you need them. This basket you just emptied for the year points to how much work you have done with your garden during the last year…and it's a lot!
