Hi, I’m Kalem, and this channel features all sorts of unusual and exotic fruiting plants with tips of how to successfully grow them. I’m interested in all things gardening and love growing my own food and all types of edible plants.
I live on a 2 acre piece of land in New Zealand where we are turning a grass paddock into and abundant, edible paradise and food forest! So come along on this journey with me as I experiment with growing, and try to push the limits of what I can grow. I’ll share with you my successes and failures so hopefully you’ll learn from them and have a go yourself! Come learn with me and Subscribe to join this awesome community π

so this is a damsen plum tree these are
more of a cooking Plum or a jam sort of
a plum they are just you know more sour
than your standard plums I’ve found
though that actually if you eat them you
know when they get a little bit softer
I’ll give it a bit of a taste it is sour
but I reckon they’re not actually that
bad to eat fresh I quite like sour
fruits though and they do make your
mouth water but yeah kind of a cool
little Plum anyway and we’ll probably
make a batch of jam out of these and see
how that turns
out

My family been always making plum jams since i remember. They taste the best with white cheese on dark bread, or inside doughnuts.
My kids and I actually love eating them fresh! But we are addicted to umeboshi.
The best jam. I love plum jam above any fruit jam.
My first Damson plum jam had me saying 'Damn, son!'. So good!
Looks yummy k
I love eating these when they are ripe I let them drop. They have nice erect growth habit too ay?
2nd best. The best plums for jam you can't buy though, although they grow wild in parts of the US. They're called Beach plums.

If there's ONE reason to grow this tree , That is the ONE β€
Plum preserve is so delicious it has EVERYTHING you'd want a jam to be !!
Beautiful colour , delicious aroma perfect balance of acid and sugar , as well as creating the stable pectin jelly while it cooks.
Now , you can re-name this tree as the Plum Jam Tree π³ π―
In certain countries in Central Asia namely Sakarthvelo (= aka Georgia)
They cook the almost ripe, but tart unripe plums into a sour sauce . Used in stews and savory condiments.
Blessings of spring, from your friend Mishmish

Wish we could grow plums in the tropics.
I bought a Victoria plum tree 2 years ago. Last year I had 3 plums, but this year the tree has been covered in blossom. Fingers crossed I will be able to make jam in a few minths time. I'm in England – Happy St. George's Day.
We love eating these in Turkey, they are sometimes extremely sour though
So plump and juicy! As a fellow fan of sour fruits, this is on my list.
Plums are great for baking in my opinion, my mom used to make soft spongecake on the bottom with quartered plums dropped into the dough and topped with cookie crumps, that become all crunchy, balanes the sourness of the plum and served with sweetened whipped creamπ€€
I was just looking into these making my wish list for my food forest (that I haven't started yet!) do this is good to know. I love plum jam!
