Had one duck killed and on attacked

Can anyone provide me with there opinion on what it was?

The living duck has blood and missing feathers on the back of neck.

The dead one have the neck meat eaten and all neck feathers removed and the back was stripped of feathers.

To me, ripped out feathers (rather than cut) and the fact that it’s the innards that are eaten suggest that it’s a bird of prey.

Weasels go for the neck and head and often will decapitate their prey. They are relentless and love to kill. If you have more birds make sure they are locked up tight. If it is a weasel it will be back to kill them all, I assure you.

Source: mink annihilated 20/25 of my birds, discovered where we were keeping the survivors, and terrorized us for days until we were able to dispatch it.

If it happened over night I’d say coon. During daylight hours I’d say bird of prey.

I’m thinking it looks like when a hawk hit one of ours.

  5. Opossum are savage around my neck of the woods. One got into my temporary coop on my porch Monday night and ate 5 of my chicks. I put the .22lr on its ass and had to clean up the bloody mess 😩 Nature is savage! Shit happens.

It’s a little difficult to assess the damage, but it could be a horned owl. They swoop in, decapitate the target, and take off with the head, leaving the mostly intact body behind. That’s my guess.

It stinks that I don’t know when it happened, I was just curious as to figure out my vengeance on the attacker.

More than likely raccoon, opossum are hunters of opportunity and go after small prey like babies or eggs
