Earlier this week we had a stray rooster wander on to our property. He's been hanging out in our yard all week, happy as can be, foraging in the grass and by the nearby creek. We posted on our community Facebook group (we live in a really small town) to see if he belongs to anyone. Nobody is claiming him and everyone is basically telling us we have a rooster now.
Assuming he sticks around and doesn't meet an untimely end by car or predator, what does one do with a rooster? Does he need a coop? What does he do in the winter? Should I get some hens now?
