What edible should I plant here?

I want to plant a fruiting plant here. The plant cannot disturb the rock wall with its roots and such. I was going to plant blueberries, but they put out runners that I think would eventually get into the rock wall. It’s roughly an 8’x8’ area.

You can’t grow edibles unfortunately you have to make them

  2. I think blueberries would work well actually. Do a fruit tree guild maybe a peach

If you’re being serious? It depends what you’re looking at for climate. I see people recommending blueberries, but my blueberries grow up six feet tall and I can’t imagine them fruiting at container height.

What I like in small spaces like that is herbs that you know you will use frequently. Thyme is low growing but spreads. Rosemary gets enormous, but also lasts forever. Tarragon sprawls, but it’s mainly an annual, so done after a season.

What do you actually want to grow, is the main consideration.

Turn it into. Herb bed. Lots of different herbs that can be fresh cut when cooking.

Without knowing your climate, it would be hard to give a specific recommendation maybe try out your favorite seasonal vegetables here for a season or two before committing to something long term. You can learn the sun, soil, water conditions in that specific spot to inform your decision on what would be happy here permanently.

Rosemary is tasty and a perennial and best fresh. Also garlic. Thyme is amazing once you get it established and can definitely be pretty and smell great. Oregano is good but it is in the mint family and can get out of hand quickly.
