  1. nah, the best compost is the compost my township makes. They have a machine that flips the piles/rows. Its 2 yrs old and fully composted. Black and rich. And its in huge quantity…..free. 2 full pickup loads so far this yr

  2. Ive been composting dirty straw from my chickens and it breaks down quite nicely and it's chalked full of worms… Most plants love it. although its a bit hot for some. for those plants I mix it with forest clay.

  3. Last year I started using our home compost the lazy way, by simply planting my Asian squash around the compost bin and trellising it so the squash could shade the compost. The reason I did is that we mistakenly installed the compost bin in a full sun area years ago, and it's not possible to move it now. Volunteer squash kept growing prolifically out of the compost, so I figured why not?
