  1. My plum tree blossomed 2 weeks ago but we just had a freeze the last 3 days in a row. It was almost 70 in the day and 26 degrees at night. Last night was bad. I lost my tomatoe plants 😔

  2. Kansas City here. My plum tree flowered around the end of March, that was after our last hard frost. Since then, all of my garden plants are growing exponentially!

  3. what about dandelions? they are everywhere unlike specific trees or birds. plant in ground when dandelions bloom nearby. not failed me when I follow it.

  4. Black morels start popping a few weeks before yellow morels. In my area and where I find them yellow morels pop up around may 20 or so.

  5. I'm on year 15 since I heard this tip and it's always worked in NE Ohio. It snows three times on the Crocuses. Always a relief to count the third snow on the Crocuses and know it's the last snow of the season.

  6. I’m in Kent county DE. Our last frost prediction was April 9th. We are told not to plant until Mother’s Day I’m going to plant in the next five days, to give my soil time to warm up. Going with my gut feeling 🙌🏻 Two years ago we had a freak frost the third week in May😂😂 I have extra plants, I’m just gonna go for it🙌🏻😂

  7. I have a plum tree and the blossoms have come and gone and we have had temps in the upper 20ties. so doubt I would trust it.

  8. Plum trees bloom here in Central Virginia in mid to late February some years, way too early for planting the summer stuff.

  9. The maple one is ridiculous. sap has never stopped flowing even in the same month as last frost. like this year, season was over 5 weekend ago, even night this week was in the 20s. sap stops flowing when it's done, not based on temp.

  10. Here in NE Kansas hedge trees are best to use. A old time told me when the hedge, Also called Osage orange, leaves are as big as a mouse ear is safe to plant. Plum trees get froze half the time

  11. How to know when to plant ? Drop your pants , sit bare assed on the ground , if it's warm to your backside the ground is warm enough ! Simple and effective !

  12. TN grandmother's tale. have never seen it not work. don't plant tomatoes until peonies bloom. peonies will bud up but not bloom until danger is over. .

  13. We had frost warning last night, but I already have alot going on lol. I am 6b and have had my garden planted since the 1st of March

  14. My mom always said "Tax Day" (April 15) for our area (Middle TN). In the last 40 years it's been 96% accurate. I have collected LOTS of plant covers just in case and a few years ago it dipped to the 20s. I covered and all but one lived, o

  15. The safest bet is to just use crop protection. Cold frames , row covers , mini green houses for your warm weather stuff. Then there is no guess work

  16. You should ask Isaiah if he can be on camera. Theres many kinds of Amish. Many of them do have electricity & have no problem being in camera these days. I bet it would be a popular video.

  17. My grandmother told me when I was a child that it's safe to plant when quacking aspen's leaves are the size of cat's ear.

  18. Are these wild plum trees from there area? I finally took my plum trees down because they usually got frost bitten. I don’t know if they were bought or wild, but they didn’t work.

  19. I don't have plum trees but I do have dandelions. I go by dandelions, when the leaves show I put in my cool weather crops, when the flowers bud I do my medium sowing ones that can't freeze but don't need the heat of summer, when the dandelions seed I put in my hot weather plants like peppers, cucs and tomatoes. Works where I am in Southern Ontario, learned this from Maritime Gardener.

  20. Last week and this week the frosts were even -8 C overnight. Plums, apple trees, currants, walnuts and Canadian blueberries all froze in bloom. Some of the tomatoes also froze in the greenhouse, but the peppers survived. I put lit candles. The weather is playing tricks on us. Central Europe.

  21. We had frost this morning in Central Ohio…this method may be "cool" but too dicey for me. lol. We traditionally wait until at least after Mother's Day around here, but we have even had a few frosts after that date in the last 15 years. Mother Nature is always keeping us on our toes!

  22. I love the tips from the Amish series! Thanks for sharing this. 🤠
I heard that if have areas where warm weather birds migrate, in my case I heard that it's safe to plant after the hummingbirds come.

  23. Hi Luke, just put down brussels and carrots today (5b). Peas and radishes are popping. Waiting on the leaf vegies. Going to see how the garlic massacre progresses… if dead, then replacing w/ onions. Thank you for all the knowledge. Peace in the Berkshires, MA

  24. Looks like I might find a place to plant a plum tree next year. Japanese or English plums, does it matter? Mennonites don't want to be on camera either

  25. Love this method! I always say, if there’s a grid down situation, the thing I’ll miss the most is my weather app. Doing it Amish style is awesome. I know they aren’t perfect, but the Amish are great preppers

  26. I’m so tempted to plant! I have black locust trees that are gettin leaves already, usually doesn’t start until mid May.

  27. I just wait till the first week of May here in Michigan and if we get a late frost I just cut the bottoms off all the milk jugs we saved over winter and make tiny greenhouses for each plant. Its upcycling and frost prevention. Never lost a plant yet.

  28. That may work for some cultivars of plums, or maybe in some areas of some states, but I can tell you it wouldn't work across the board. What works for me is waiting until about 10 days before my last possible frost and watching the extended forecast. If it looks good, then I go ahead and plant my garden. Also planting by the moon phases is a real thing. It works.
