  1. I have been trying neem oil relentlessly, as well as sticky traps and coarse sand. I am about to finally switch out allll the soil – hoping this video will help ensure all is gone and aid in prevention! I’m dealing with this in my overwintered nightshades, as well as some nearby houseplants. They are all contained in the same room, but it’s sorta preventing me from starting other seedlings currently. Wish me luck! 🤞🍀 Thank you, CaliKim! 😸

  3. Love these suggestions. I'd been wondering where to get the sticky traps. Also, when you sterilize the soil with the water, do you wait for it to dry and then put it in a bag or use it right away?

  4. Since you are beyond the point of germination I would assume you would have used a popular method to discourage insects from approaching your plants. Currently I only know of one method, and it's not what you have shown on your video.

I would assume you would already have transplanted your plants that you are showing on your video into a bigger container, and then used a popular method to discourage anything that is living from approaching your plants.

I had a discussion about it with a professional gardener in person today, and she mentioned that the method I was thinking of using, for my plants is good to discourage small wildlife animals from approaching my plants, but according to the internet it should also work with insects as well.

With the soil water, and eventually fertilizer should be used. You could add whatever you want with your soil, but if your not mindful about what you are doing then you could get undesirable results.

Anyway I did pick up some more pointers from the professional gardener!

  5. How can you let the first few inches or even one inch dry out when you have brand new seed in there. You are not supposed let seeds dry out. Most of the seeds are tiny and get planted at or near the surface.

  6. Hundreds of gnats this year because I forgot to use hot water to kill the eggs and larvae and I overwatered. 😂 We got sticky yellow traps too.

  7. Perfect timing! I am growing from seed for the first time, and I am afraid that my soil is too wet from my initial watering, plus the humidity dome on top. There is a slight gap between my dome and the tray, and sure enough, I saw an adult gnat fluttering around. I got out my yellow sticky trap, but I don't know if I got it in time to prevent eggs from being laid. When you start from seed, aren't you supposed to wet the soil before planting? That is what I did. Then I put the dome on and it got very steamy because I also have a heat mat for the tomato and pepper seeds. Are you supposed to take the dome off and air it out?
