The main pest for us in zone 10 is garden lizards. They are cute little creatures but the love garden plants! I am working hard to keep them at bay with tiny gauge wire, and cloth netting. It's really hot here in the summers but we also have a rainy season going on, so it sorta evens out.

I just want to clarify what you’re saying about zone eight and planting brassicas, flowers, etc. You’re saying to wait till the end of August to start the seeds for these plants that like it cooler?

I got 1 little zucchini 😢 But I got a ton of yellow squash! Last yr it was just the opposite 😂
It's not fit to plant anything right now in Texas 100 plus degree days and no rain for the last 48 days and none in the forecast. Today 105, and the next 15 days are all forecast to be over 100. I'm over it. lol

Got any tips for harvesting seed? This morning Im trying to harvest basil seed and those puppies are not forthcoming easily from the seed pods.

Give me all the zucchini! I love shredding and freezing for zucchini-based goodies in winter. I’m also making zucchini flour!
Mid-October frost date: Cucumbers, okra, eggplant, summer squash, carrots, beets, radishes, parsnips, bunching onions, swiss chard, kale, [broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts with caveat], calendula, sweet alyssum, nasturtium, potatoes.
Hang tight if you're first frost date is sooner… 🤔 hanging tight… 🤪 still waiting… 😵💫.

Carrots… I don't have shavings, but use straw. I planted shallow rows of carrots in my raised metal bed and covered them with styrofoam strips, which I secured down with landscape staples. Worked great! I have seen others use a board across the row, just check daily for sprouting. This fall planting I plan to use narrow board strips cut to size.
I'm in zone 6. People are shocked you dont have to plant everything in May. Just planted a second round of snap peas and green beens last week. Peas are already flowering!
Hi Brian! Like you, I have also lived in California in the same area my whole life. San Diego is 9B/10A. I also live in 9B/10A. In one of your videos you said that many of your perennials are now annuals. I have multiple perennials in my garden that are also annuals. I just didn't know that there was a term for it until I watched one of your videos.
I live in San Jose, which is ironically, also in the top ten most populated cities in California, let alone the U.S.!
But none of that has anything to do with why I chose you as the only gardener I now follow on youtube. I chose you to watch on a daily basis because you stood out from all the rest. You treat every aspect of gardening down to the point of alchemy! From how you stake tomatoes in the most particular way, to just about everything/anything else I see in your videos, I learn something new. You CAN teach an old dog new tricks, LOL!
I germinate carrots in leaf mold 100 percent germination after only 5 days granted I live in southern maryland
Thanks Brian! Will probably redo the raised beds because my husband didn't like the way my son did it 🤣, will see if he is willing to do it on his own. My zucchini gave me a small one so far. The garden didn't do so well and I am not happy with the heat and humidity and on top of that I am hurting so the garden had to do it on it's own, my son watered and harvested. I really have to get going in the spring and need to place drip irrigation because I don't want to be outside during the summer. So depressing not to be able to garden. In Georgia we don't have much of a spring, we get nice weather in January, February and when everything is in bloom a freeze comes and kills it. We can't plant until the end of April and in May it gets so hot already is done with spring in 2 weeks if not sooner ☹️ Have a blessed day 🤗💞
