  1. That was a plant haul! The hydrangea is gorgeous! I can't wait to see this space finished-I bet you can't either. I have a small area that has bindweed growing in it as well. I used both of those sprays as well and neither would get rid of it. I finally had to get Roundup. I made sure that I wore protective clothes. I also made sure that if there was anything else close that I covered that up with cardboard. I sprayed it one time and that's all it took. Once bindweed has taken hold in a yard it's very difficult to eradicate. Good luck!

  2. I’m pretty hopeless at propagating plants from cuttings but with the Verbena it was very easy. I just took some bits I had cut back and shoved them in the ground and they all took. I have clay and limestone soil.

  3. The Rose meadow…must say I love that's what you call it…will be gorgeous and lush in no time. And what an appropriate name of Hydrangea for Honey Hill.

  4. Is that hydrangea ok in the sunshine ? Or does your rose meadow get enough shade for them to be happy together? I’ve just always heard a hydrangea needs mostly shade

  5. Have you tried verbena lollipop that comes back and is so beautiful!! We in Michigan are having temps in the nineties and high humidity. Absolutely yuck. Lol I am watering and watering. Love your garden!!

  6. Hi Sam, what was your thoughts on using a hydrangea hedge instead of box woods? Aesthetic preference?

  7. These plants are sooo lovely! I wish our local nursery had plants like this in that size. Ours are all gallon containers for most perennials like hydrangeas and budlias and those cost so much! That prairie area is really coming along, I'm excited to see how these all grow to fill the space in the next couple years.

  8. just beautiful! As far as the new bed and the bind weed, I don't have bind weed in my zone 5 Indiana….but, since there are no plants in there yet. Try torching the weeds (with a water hose nearby) you only have to hit the weeds with a torch for 4 to 6 seconds. It takes care of the grass and just might kill the cellular structure of bind weed so it dies by the root. You don't have to hover the torch long enough so that the plants catch on fire, 5 seconds on each one does work. I use it on thistle, creeping charlie, purslane etc.

  9. do your delphiniums die back to the ground in 100 degree temps? we're reaching 100 degrees consistently now too in Texas and my delphiniums are dying. Hoping they come back but it's the first year i've planted them so i'm unsure if they will

  10. It's so nice to watch you plant: thoughtfully, quietly, with a shovel. What draws us to gardening is the particular and the personal engagements we have with our gardens. So much of that is lost in the gluttony expressed in huge projects and mechanized planting. Your new area shows so much promise; I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.

  11. Fab! Only thing I would say is don’t use compost to fill your holes- it will decompose and you’ll have your holes back, you need to use soil!! ❤
