  1. THATCH!!! Congratulations! It looks amazing!!! And I"m so happy. I'm new enough that I thought you were leaving the chimney stucco and every time I watched all I saw was how that chimney should be brick. Missed that part of the plan. It also looks fantastic!!! Debi in 'Rillo.

  2. It does look like an English cottage apart from that hideous chimney stack.
I lived in a thatched cottage that was built some time between 1560 and 1610 according to land reference maps.
It was a small cottage with wattle and daub walls, where you could hear the rats running around on there way back up to the thatch where they slept at night, (because of the rising heat going to the roof).
They are nice houses but insurance can be expensive because of people celebrating with fireworks. A thatched roof will go up like a bonfire if rockets or other fireworks land on them.

  3. Look I am probably far from your vision, but if I had your space as far I can see you have to bring a lot of compost from a far, in your tropical garden, I would fit in exactly and make a large greenhouse, where you could even plant trees, and a small pond, but it would have given another isolation from what is outside and you would have controlled both insects and animals more easily and the snails that bother you. Plus it would have been your place of relaxation and retreat. But I guess that's just my vision.

  4. Its such a small piece of land you should use grass appropriate for you location run a sprinkler or two to water it. It will look so much better too! Also clover 😅 is a nitrogen fixer but the only way for it to share its nitrogen is to kill it.

  5. That's what is called a scrub jay, not the same jay as a blue jay. Ruth Stout was a goddess, I discovered her books when I started my first big (50 X 100)
garden in 1980. I got free spoiled hay just down the street from a friend with horses. Manure, too. Yes, the hay had seeds, but who was I to complain?

  6. I recently bought Sluggo Plus for Roly Poly's that were eating the roots of my veggies plants. So far, it hasn't worked cuz the 5th zucchini plant roots were gone this morning. I am gopher proofed also. So not sure what is eating the roots of my veggies each night. Help?

  7. You must be very rich to afford all this work Brian. But, it's very interesting to us poor folk to watch 😜 I think you should have a small swale in front of your lawn area, helps with watering. Swales are great to concetrate water in your areas, I think you should work on that a lot.

  8. Hi Brian I have a ? about pruning husky cherry tomato plants , should I prune them the same way as other cherry tomato plants leaving the sucker on and pruning the lower branches since it’s a dwarf plant. I know this isn’t the subject of this video, sorry

  9. 👏👏👏👏👏 Well done, Brian!! That thatch roof looks fabulous!! I am glad you have moved past the intimidation factor……now that you have done it, you got this!! I don't know if I conveyed that well…..but I know that when you set out to do something you've never done, but you've seen it done, or have a general idea of how it's done, and you are confident you can do it……but there is still that apprehension of intimidation until you actually push up your sleeves and dive in the first time. Now that you have crossed that threshold, the rest will move faster…..and your confidence grows……and then you wonder why you waited so long to start!! Lol. That's how it works for me, anyway. You are doing great on it…..I look forward to seeing it finished. You are an artist…..you will make it look good…I have seen your work!! 😉

  10. Have you seen the chive blossom vinegar recipe? It uses those purple flowers to flavor the vinegar! Thought that was a cool idea.

  11. cheap source of fine mulch I use wood pellets intended for a pellet stove just put a coffee cans worth in a 5 gallon bucket and pour water on them they just turn back into sawdust its perfect for holding in moistiure Im in south west New mexico we have to shade our plants here and try and keep as much moisture as possible

  12. Maine here.. not planting out tomatoes and peppers until this coming weekend. Yesterday is was almost 90° but this week we have a few nights with lows to 40°! 🤦🏼‍♀️ it may not kill them, but it won’t be good for them. My seedlings are WAY past ready to go in the ground!

  13. Were probably going to be in a drought gere in Pennsylvania. No rain hardly at all this month. No rain fir the last 2 weeks or for the next 10 days in the forecast. You are a very talented man. . Your place is amazing!

  14. I live in zone 7b, should I pinch my dahlias with the shorter growing season? Thanks, love your videos!

  15. Everything looks wonderful. Your hard work has paid off. Love the thatch. By the way. If you are still having problems with gophers or rats use bubble gum (double bubble works best).

  16. I love all your experiments am learning a lot on your channel. Thanks for showing us a lady bug larva!

  17. Can't wait to see your tropical garden with the pond and waterfall, if it's anything like what you've already done, it will be amazing! You have such great ideas and the skills to pull it off! Love both of your channels!

  18. I have a suggestion in the tropical garden area walkways. I’d keep them 3-4 feet wide. That way you can walk along with someone next to you.

  19. Everything looks great! But what can be done about the snails? I can't stand them on my plants.

  20. It’s very interesting to see it all come together, it’s looking good.

  21. Blessed Memorial Day to you, Brian. The thatch looks amazing🎊. Please tell me when you planted those squash plants, I planted a 6 inch tall Eight Ball squash 4/28 and it has only grown about 4 inches. Since we are in the same zone 9b, I’m shocked to see your big squash plants loaded with fruit.

  22. 🎉🎉everything looks fabulous! The thatch is perfect! You accomplished quite a bit this week!!
Ya the weather is definitely changing the way i garden this year.
