Japanese Hill and Pond Garden Tour – Brooklyn Botanic Gardens Grand Re-open

Join us on a *brief* tour of Brooklyn’s very own Japanese Garden!

Deep within the heart of Brooklyn lies a very special place that’s near and dear to our hearts! I like to think of it as a hidden gem, but to be honest, it’s SUPER public! In fact, the Japanese Hill and Pond Garden located within the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens in South Brooklyn has been both a local and international favorite of countless visitors. With a rich history dating over a century, created by Takeo Shiota in 1915, it’s not hard to imagine why people might be drawn to this wonder.

In today’s episode, Yasu and I brave sweltering temperatures to bring you, our beloved seedlings, a brief moment of peace in this wondrous spot. We start our journey at the southern entrance to the BBG off Flatbush Ave (make sure if you are planning on visiting, to get tickets in advance as it is the only way you will be permitted on the grounds). As we step into the garden grounds proper, a feeling of serenity immediately sweeps over us. In a world of concrete and glass, a little haven of green is VERY cherished! A slow, meandering sees us past a wetlands rich with various aquatic flora and fauna (including a special sort of cat only found in the gardens). We round the corner and stumble upon the Conservatory, knowing we are close to our goal. We press forward with anticipation. Finally, just around a brush, an indescribable vista opens itself to us. We are greeted by an immediate feeling of serenity. The landscape perfectly curated with the viewer in mind. If you have not been, you must go. No photograph can do the emotion justice. Encouraged by our new found peace, we press forward onto a trail. The garden is designed in such a way that you discover its wonders as you experience it. Each treasure is perfectly tucked away, waiting for you to find it!

I won’t ruin the ending, but suffice it to say WE. WILL. BE. BACK!

Enjoy one of our favorite spots in the city!

  1. I also love the gardens and wish we could come to visit again! It has been great to watch some of the videos posted by the Gardens also! Can't wait for Part 2!

  2. Aw what a bummer! But I’m glad the park is open now and people are safely venturing out to support them. We’ve been to the BBG many times to see the sakura, it’s a beautiful, tranquil place. Looking forward to part two!
