I hope you guys love it stay tuned for a
great tet
[Music]
10 good morning and welcome to the 10 at
10 guys get excited we’ve got 10 new
trees we’re talking about wait there’s
20 check your email for the full listing
of 20 we’re going to talk about 10 of
them here on the table today ye-haw guys
by the time you watch this we’re already
in Texas we’re filming early I’m Matt
that’s my brother Tim we’ve got some
amazing plants for you for April 9th of
2024 if you see something here you like
and it’s close to that date they’ll
probably look very similar if you’re
watching a year from now sizes could
vary they’ll probably be very indicative
of what we have in 2024 some great
plants on the lineup today I’m calling
it tiedye Tuesday Tim let’s jump right
into it guys starting off we’ve got
small cherman in in three gallons this
Cyprus obtusa it’s a small compact
Cyprus obtusa in the first place has a
blue green col to it has these almost
Cathedral type appearance stays dense
Compact and Guys these things they’ve
got some good size on these plants even
though they are small three gallons yeah
absolutely love cherman we do a top five
Japanese maple show I have a good mind
about me that if we did a top five
Conifer very frequently you’d see
chairman probably one of the most common
trees in that top five everybody loves
it it gets brought up a ton I love what
this does for that dwarf Miniature
connifer Garden this is a compact dwarf
hokei Cyprus that’s going to go out in a
Japan garden and give you a really
architectural shape going on and a small
stature now this one can get some silver
in the blue foliage as well as it
matures you start to get some of that
green dense compact habit makes this
excellent to pair out there with your
Japanese maples your small miniature
Gardens your fairy gardens need I say it
the miniature railroad Garden let’s do
it all right guys late to Le here but
we’ve got some great Acer japonicum
emt’s pumpkin and EMT he didn’t go he
didn’t skimp on the pumpkin he named a
great plant it’s actually named for EMT
uh absolutely awesome tree emit pumpkin
one of my favorite large leaf japonicum
also one of the fastest growing
japonicum of the mall now it is a very
oblong Leaf it has that bright orange
fall color where gets the name of imit
pumpkin but being a large leaf Acer
japon come out in the landscape commands
its attention all by itself let alone
when this thing turns into fall color
when this thing turns into fall color it
steals the show love this tree and it is
one of the more vigorous forms of Acer
Japonica Ally over a foot of growth a
year putting init pumpkin far ahead of a
lot of the other acan japonicum you can
put this one out it fills out quickly
I’ve had a foot and a half of growth I
have a big one in Maplewood Gardens and
that thing is literally shading out
things that are half its age right now
incredible plant love those large leaves
Now you kind of get that blushing feel
with this one too you get some orange
Hues in the spring fall is really when
it goes full pumpkin that’s when it’s
got its biggest full mature leaves of
the Season that bright orange is
exceptional
all right y’all we’re bringing back
another variegated classic guys we’ve
got Acer pomatum radiant on the 10 at 10
today this one will sell out quickly so
make sure you check out fast our website
doesn’t hold it for you until you
complete that checkout process radiant
is a great Japanese maple for bright
pink variegation you’ll get pink white
and some swirling going on in the bark
on this one great fall colors as well
more of a red uh fall color on this one
this one’s going to work zones 5 through
N9 now I do recommend some shade in the
Deep South for this one in your hotter
climates you’re going give it some late
day shade protection from the Sun from
that 300 p.m. on sun is crucial for this
one absolutely love what radiant does
though uh it can be one of the most
extravagant Japanese maples of the mall
now this is a very variegated plant so
avoid over fertilizing this style of
variegation you may get more chlorophyll
in there which means less of the
varation if you do that so stay away
from the fertilizers with AC pomum
radiant and this thing will be a beauty
in the garden absolutely love it Jack
grab your a radiant
today just now leafing Out Easter P made
him Emma awesome tree now Emma is a
great plant I have you know I named one
hot blonde for my wife I’ve got a niece
named Emma so she had to put an Emma
near the hot blonde uh we did put a
fence between it now so she’s tell me I
have to dig it up and move it around the
other side of the fence and put it Clos
to hot blond I’m like hey the fence
wasn’t there we pled it they’re close
enough but I love Emma and I love the
tree so great plant y’all this is a
dwarf compact form it’s a little more
rare we produced a lot the buckolz farm
so it’s getting out there a lot from
that but you don’t see this one a lot in
propagation Emma is a little smaller
than most lace sleaves so around 4 feet
tall about 5T wide and it’s going to
work zones 5 through nine now when it’s
leafing right now it looks almost like a
chartreuse with hint of bronze it will
get more bronze as that summer
approaches and the Fall colors on this
are bright oranges and infused with
yellows and red so it’s some outrageous
fall colors on a weeping lace Leaf
Japanese maple goes out there contrast
well against your green Japanese maple
and your red Japanese maples so if
you’ve got a green and a red throw this
one down there in the center and it’s
going to be outrageous and really add
that extra Dynamic this going to look
great in a container I love that kind of
bronzing aspect of it even late summer I
think this is one that if you already
have a few Japanese maples in your
garden especially lce leaves it’s going
to contrast so well uh there’s so many
great ones now but I think you’re going
to love Emma and what it provides in the
landscape I love it smaller overall
stature as well that graceful weeping
habit is is an excellent plant now
talking about tree with an excellent
weeping habit we’ve got another one here
that has a really nice arching weeping
habit now JD ver trees that guy might
know a few things about Japanese M he
hard to argue with him he wrote the
first English-speaking book on Japanese
maples uh he says that seim Mori may be
the best fall color Japanese lace Leaf
of them all and that’s hard to argue
with I love what skiore does in the fall
it is a brilliant shade of yellow now
this one is a little bit more sprawly
it’s a little bit wider it’s lower and a
little bit more reaching out than some
of the other Green Lace sleeves this one
doesn’t get quite as tall typically
around 4T tall but about 5 to 6ot wide
making it something that kind of reaches
out in width but not a ton of height
it’s one of those Green Lace leaves I
can walk out in a arboretum see a
specimen of it and identify it before I
even get up just because that unique
shape it really has that low and arching
habit where it just sprawls out and
creates this low spreading habit that’s
just extremely beautiful uh for me this
tree is one of the best of the Green
Lace dad started growing it early on is
one of our first Green Lace Loops we
started growing here at Mr Maple the
Fall colors bright yellows infused with
a little bit of orange for this for this
tree plant it on a hill I mean JD V Tre
even says plant the lace Leafs on a hill
so you can accentuate and really see up
into the branches of these weeping
Styles it really adds a new Dynamic to
them and really increases that sort of
mountain landscape appeal that people
use in traditional Japanese gardening
now this one’s also going to work zones
5 through N I have no that seim Mori has
been a huge performer for us in hotter
climates this one’s done exceptional in
full sun in Columbia South Carolina it’s
going to do well in Alabama and Georgia
it’s an exceptionally durable Green Lace
Leaf I think you’re going to love it for
its small stature but also its
durability a little late to Leaf out
sometimes to which is nice uh one of the
better green distinguishable lace Leafs
I feel SEI
Mory now this is perhaps one of the last
times I think we’ll be offering for a
while the grafted mawi atusa seedlings
so these were seedlings that Talon buol
had sent us and then we wanted to
evaluate them further so we grafted a
number of them to continue on and
they’re basically all seedlings they
don’t have names on them but they were
evaluated further for us to figure out
if we want to ruce them into the nursery
trait or not these are a grab bag of
traits so think of our red maawa
seedings but grafted uh so it’s a little
confused in there on what they are but
they’re excellent they have the the
Vigor of a grafted plant but I think a
little bit of that variability you like
about the myy Bonsai seedlings so these
are from seed then we grafted a whole
set of them so they’re all kind of mixed
genetics in there you’re not going to
get a specific trait out of these but
they are exceptional a lot of them are
they’re all going to have that dense
maawa Habit to them a lot of them are
going to have more bronzing more pink
more red spring colors a lot of interest
in there some of them may even be
cultivar worthy uh to be honest I have
evaluated a long all these long enough
but what you’re going to get out of
these is a awesome looking dense maawa
style Japanese maple with a lot of great
Vigor to it that grass going to go ahead
and put out there so you’re not waiting
on it for forever it’s going to fill out
nicely and these are 3 to four year one
gallons so you are getting a really old
tree out of these one gallons and some
of these had some really nice shades of
orange some of these had some really
nice shades of sort of bronze kind of
pink I mean there were some amazing
trees in these NY bonai you want to
check out fast today again these will
sell out quickly great traits on these I
think you’re going to love them some
good sizes and uh just great plants all
around all right I’ve told the story on
this one but we’re bringing back pink
princess now I recently named one for my
middle daughter and I called that one
Daddy’s girl pink princess came out when
Tim and I were evaluating a witches
broom from our friend Carl M and we were
I was expecting my first kid which was
my daughter Carolina so pink princess
kind of the tree we named for her a
little bit absolutely fun it’s a compact
dwarf witches broom off of Benny Shish
Hena which is my grandmother my mother’s
favorite tree which would be Carolina’s
grandmother so this has that paint
border in the early spring and it’s
really rocking it out right now it has a
dense compact habit really it’s it’s
actually probably a little more stable
than bin shishah henga it seems to be
and it it throws on less reversion than
b shishah henga stays dense and compact
it’s vigorous to the young age and then
denes up I mean pink princess it’s one
of the few variegated witches broom
that’s in the Plant World and as a dense
compact dwarf this is a tree that can
fit in smaller spaces in the garden love
this one for the container garden
imagine if you will something like
Matthew or Tiny Tim or Shaina but
variegated you’re getting a witches
broom that’s variegated it’s kind of a
unicorn in that you don’t ever see
variegated brooms it’s two different
weird things it’s variegation also a
broom so two unique characteristics
coming together here to make a super
rare combination of pink princess I
absolutely love this one I love what it
does that pink leafing out in the spring
is exceptional they are Vigor at
vigorous at first when you first they
first Lea out you’ll think this can’t be
a dwarf they’re f ping out nicely they
do slow down and densing up a good bit
on that older growth so it’s going to
get nice and dense very compact making
it a great patio planner I think this
going to get more of a 5×5 Globe shape
for you over time and I think you’re
going to love what pink princess does
especially in the
landscape one paint tree to another this
is one by dick Vander mat called Acer
palum Isabelle now we recently did a
podcast that may be coming out this week
we’ll see uh uh on Dick Vander mat rip
great uh influence on Tim and I we kind
of did a podcast just in memory of him
celebrating a lot of his Maple
achievements many of you know Milo we’ve
helped popularize that one here at Mr
Maple dick Vander mat before he passed
wanted to make sure we had all of his
prominent introductions and one of those
is definitely Isabel yeah this tree gets
upwards about 6 to 8 foot in 10 years
it’s one of the brightest pink in the
early spring and it has more of that
shrub likee shape it really is an
amazing tree out there in the land cape
for a tree that has that flowering
interest with the foliage this one gives
some of the most dynamic pinks of any of
the Japanese maples now this one’s also
going to work zones 5 through n
exceptionally heat tolerant I will say
the color is amazing in the spring given
this one a little late day shade can
hold that spring color a little later
into the season but it does well in a
good bit of heat as well you’re going to
get some splashes of that pink new
growth over top of green Midsummer
really shows out that contrast as well
now I talk about this a lot but do SoJO
in many of these flowering spring spring
forms where the the spring color is like
a flower are so popular for bony I’ve
got a huge list of people uh waiting for
different bonai types like seen guys
think about Isabelle this is a great one
for that small Leaf as well it’s going
to fit in very well with do SoJO and
many of those others it’s so rare a lot
of bonai books aren’t going to be
covering this one but I think this is
going to fit in exceptionally well with
do
SoJO all right let’s get a little
Dogwood fun on the table coming back to
the tenant 10 and we’ve got cornis cusa
Benny Fuji was this our fastest Dogwood
to sell out last year it was one of the
very fastest ones this one hits and
people love Ben Fuji uh that that color
is exceptional I absolutely love what it
brings uh you know it’s a Cornus cousa
so it’s got all that durability in it uh
from the Chinese Dogwood which works
great here in the South they make
excellent plants for the durability
there but this one just has a little
something extra going on yeah when it
first blooms you’ll have a white Bloom
and that white Bloom turns to a pink
fairly quickly and that pink just
displays so well on this Chinese Dogwood
being a cornis cusa it blooms during the
summer and when it does it’s going to
bloom all across the tree it’s going to
be a prolific Bloomer but being a
Chinese Dogwood it’s also disease
resistant powdery M resistant easy for a
lot of people to grow in their garden
and that’s really what we’re looking for
is a beautiful tree that’s easy to grow
and gives you some awesome pink vibrant
colors in the summer grab you one today
on tie-dye Tuesday guys they will not
last that one’s going to sell out quick
and last but not least we’re bringing
back
watnong yo watnong is an outstanding
outstanding plant it’s one of the most
heat tolerant lace leafes and it has
this gorgeous arching out shape that
distinguishes from many of the other
colorful lace L right A lot of people
mix this one up with shant Tilly lace
and they’ll ask me how they’re different
and baldsmith as well Wong has a
distinctive arching Habit to it you
you’ll definitely notice it I love this
one for the yellowish eye that it gets
to that pink exterior these have been in
some shade as you get them out into more
sunlight as they get more in leaf you’ll
get some crazy shades of orange pink and
yellow going on all at the same time
with you know it’s not an upright tree
but it has a lot of distinctive arching
branches one of our late great friends
Pat D of arburn University loved watnong
and the reason he loved it one is heat
tolerant so it did well down there in
the Alabama region but it also has a
gorgeous orange fall color and it’s one
of the best orange fall colors Gorge
just weeping habit I mean I know that of
all the Japanese maples that Pat D had
this was among his favorites oh
excellent plant it’s hard to rival the
spring color on this one it it could be
tie-dye unto itself the tree actually
encompasses everything we want about
tie-dye Tuesday here today it can like
be yellow green yellow yellow again
orange and red you got all kinds of
crazy Shades going on that Spring Garden
kind of getting pink overall you get
these pink blushes over top of green so
it’s so much going on with in itself I
think you’re going to love what watnong
brings to the table this is a great
Canon for in the container again get you
a colorful pot you’re going to have so
much contrast going on there with wat
Nong and it’s exceptionally heat
tolerant as well for zones 5 through n
that is for sure and guys that was our
10 trees we got 20 so check out your
email for the other 10 guys we
appreciate yall so much make sure you’re

  1. Question : on all variegated trees should i not use any fertilizer in spring or use it in the summer or none at all? Im guessing to keep the variegation on there longer?
