I found this growing straight out of green grass. Located in North NJ. Two bunches. It doesnt look like dead grass. What could it be? Thank you!

It’s a plastic thingy. Seen these around before but not sure what they are either. Best to ask at r/whatisit

That’s a marker could be marking something buried underneath or a property line

Is there a disc golf course there? These are used to mark the circle measurements around the basket. If it’s a non-permanant course, these are usually left even if they take the baskets out of the ground.

Surveying point we call those whiskers

Busted up bit of a string trimmer or piece of plastic rope that has been hit by the lawnmower multiple times?

That looks like plastic, not a plant.

Also used to mark corners on athletic fields for painting lines.

They’re survey points/stakes! They’re used for temporary, specific construction layout (e.g., center lines, offset distances). Could be used to mark property boundary lines, utilities, or things like elevation differences, etc!

These are specifically called Trail Chasers and come in a bunch of different colors and be bought super easily through Walmart or Amazon

It reminds me of the markers the surveyor used when we had our property lines marked. There might be a metal medallion staked down there as well.

Used for grading the soil to the correct level.

    Hmmm…is it a sea urchin?

Def a survey marker that’s been hit by the lawn mower a few times

Utility companies use them to mark gas lines through yards

You found a shuttlecock growing in the wild. Those are super rare. Most people use the fake plastic ones.
