These are just nice plants to watch for in deep shade in the spring. I was just out weeding and did not expect these guys to show themselves at this time of year. Michigan, Zone 6a

    [Hepaticas are evergreen.](https://vnps.org/hepatica-heralds-spring/) They are among a small number of forest plants that use the winter sun and the significantly less competition to store up energy to flower (see also cranefly orchid, partridge berry, etc).
