My dioscorea elephantipes died unexpectedly a few days ago 😔

Its vine loosened, fell off the trellis, and the leaves dried up in a span of less than 1 day. I DID noticed one single subtle sign: it stopped vining after only a rigorous week of vining. I thought it had decided to go dormant so I didn’t feel alarmed.

I touched the caudex bulb and it was soft. I lift it gently over to check the base. I found some weird white stuff forming on the bottom. It was a hard material, like a rock.

Apologies for the rent, none of my friends are into plants so 😕

Back to the topic, I am trying to get another one and the seller showed me this picture. Is this a elephantipes or mexicana?

Looks more like another type of dioscorea, not a mexicana and definitely not a elephantipes
