Maidenhair fern care video (link in profile)

The “trick” isn’t high humidity or misting – I’ve never misted or used a humidifier. These days the humidity has been around 40-60% (hygrometer at far right)

The *principle* is to keep the soil evenly moist (assuming adequate light – the grow light in this video provided 400-600 foot-candles and was kept on 16 hours per day). Since most of the weight is water in the soil, I used a scale to show the gradual loss of water (happening via transpiration). When the pot is around a third to half the weight of fully saturated soil, then you bring it back to saturation.

The point of this is NOT so you use a scale to measure the weight change. You can just feel the weight of the pot to know when to water again. If you let a maidenhair fern get below the halfway point of dryness, many fronds will die back.
