So I got this little guy about a year ago. He came really deflated, see pic 1. With some weekly bottom watering in about a month he plumped up to pic 2. I had to repot them a couple months ago and he has since deflated a bit again, despite weekly bottom waters, 50/50 cactus soil and perlite. His roots looked good when I replanted. should i do something different or will it just take time?

That looks more organic than 50/50. Regardless- I, and I think most here, go more inorganic. I go prolly 80% and have much better results. Seems like the roots grow faster and deeper
From my experience, the plants usually focus on roots for the first month or two when repotted. So it focuses it’s resources on making root that bind to the soil. I would try a little wiggle on your plant before you water, to see if it’s getting more attached to the soil. If it is then don’t worry about your buds deflating for now since they should bounce back. If the plant is still loose in the soil and no improvement after a month, then it might be a different issue.
