For something like that to root, it would need to have the end inside perlite. Sometimes they need to have the top part of the leaf touching the substrate. In the future, I’d recommend asking whoever gave it to you how to properly propagate it. Unless you just picked them up from a greenhouse floor, and in that case, in the past I have asked the shop for permission to take them. They always say yes, and I have never been successful. I think it’s because usually, they fell off for a reason and weren’t a healthy break. So, it’s an uphill battle from the get-go.
