Composting

Any advice?

This is my first time making a compost. It has been going for 3 or 4 months. The consistency is squishy and I’m not sure if that is normal. Is there anything specific I should add to it or should I keep it up with what I’m doing?

You know it looks like you’re doing a cold compost method from the pictures. It’s hard to tell but if it’s wet and squishy, add more browns make sure you’re adding equal parts, shredded cardboard, for instance to greens like vegetables. It takes for me about a year to get compost out of the cold compost method so just be patient when you feel like your compost is full start another one and just let that one do its thing .

It looks pretty wet. If you can, add some shredded cardboard or other brown material. Google brown compost additions; it’s not just the color. More about dryness.

The finished compost should be more crumbly when it’s finished, less clumpy and squishy.

Little bins of compost are usually going to look like this. You want to go pretty heavy on browns in bins because they don’t get the same air flow as outdoor piles and are also going to always be cold.
