Step 2: Water
Water is vital to keeping your plants happy and healthy! But it’s not as easy as wetting the soil on a schedule. In partnership with @plantpositivity I’m going to teach you the fundamentals of watering, so you can become a pro at keeping your plants happy and healthy!

*WHEN to water* Trying to figure out a schedule can be confusing, so it is better to observe soil dryness to make the decision of whether to water. All plants fall within one of these three watering strategies:
▪️Whenever the soil is completely dry – cacti, succulents; thick leaved plants (like Snake plants)
▪️Whenever the soil is partially dry – most typical houseplants (like Money tree, Pothos, Philodendron, Dracaena, etc.)
▪️Keep the soil evenly moist – thin-leaved plants (like ferns)

*HOW to water* The goal is to adequately moisten all parts of the soil, leaving no dry pockets, but allowing excess water to drain away (drainage holes are helpful). I usually take a group of plants to the sink/bathroom and pour water slowly all around the soil with a watering can. I’ll let them sit in the sink as the excess water drains away for several minutes, then return them to their growing space.
