Airplant

Why did my (healthy) Pruinosa have a dark brown color on the inside of her leaves?

Hi! I just removed a few leaves from my Pruinosa because they had some spots that I didn't like. The leaves were very green and apparently healthy on the outside, and the plant does not feel squishy, mushy, smelly or anything like that; from what I can tell, it's as healthy as ever. However, when I checked the inside of the leaves, the part that it's close to the base of the plant, I noticed the very dark color you can see from the pics. I know that Pruinosa, like many other tillandsia, typically has a brownish base; is this related to the color of the inner leaves (and, in that case, I made the wrong decision when I pulled them out), or should I start to get worried? The plant is, as I said, apparently healthy.

Thank you.

Looks like rot was starting to set in. Water collects too easily in the base of the leaves and rarely dries because airflow is restricted. Some of these tillandsias are better to water upside down for that reason. Stops the water collecting in the grooves.
