What to do with my Ficus?

What would you do with this?

I am new to plants and got this bonsai (unknowingly) in a great FB deal (a ton of plants, pots, a grow light, and a table for $20).

There's tiny black bugs in the soil and it seems very overwatered, based on the fact that I've had it for a week in a pretty dry climate (Utah) and the soil is still WET.

From my research it seems like it's in a completely inappropriate pot and soil. That combined with the bugs and probable overwatering have me wondering what to do next.

A woman working in the bonsai section at my local plant store told me repotting is probably a bad idea right now, which seems correct. She told me I'm okay to leave it in the shade outside for now until I figure out the pest issue.

Sorry if this should be put in the mega thread, but it seemed more complex to me. Just let me know if this belongs there instead.

It likes to be wet. Never let soil dry out or leaves will drop. Water it when the soil is slightly damp.

Repotting now is perfect (well, as soon as you can find proper granular substrate). This isn’t a temperate climate plant that follows the seasons. Ficus isn’t the least bit fussy about work on its roots as long as you can provide good light after the repot (hence early summer).
