I’m thinking either a gopher snake or wester racer

Bullsnake. A subspecies of the gopher snake. Common mimic of a rattlesnake (both in appearance and behavior—they will shake their tail and make a fake rattling noise with their mouth) and they can be a bit aggressive but are harmless and great pest control animals. Just rescued one from bird netting this morning.

I agree, bull snake. Insanely aggressive, full of bluff though. I was bit by one in my teenage years, got sick but nothing major.
