I’ve been busy again I decided it was time to put that Cold Frame together and get it positioned outside so it can start and bring us plants on but I was worried about the fact that it’s very windy all the time and I don’t want it blowing over as it’ll break but I’ve come up with a solution to that problem I’ll show you what I’ve done so there we go it’s all been put together now it’s not a bad size at all I’ve aled a little part of it though at this bottom because these doors were wobbling about and I didn’t want them flying open so I just added that piece of wood cuz it’s only got that little one at top but we’ve already got got all those plants in I’ve pretty much filled it straight away got all those peppers in there tomatoes and there chilies this top also lifts up so we can let any excess eat out of it and just loosen that lift it up and then tighten that again obviously only when it’s not windy like it is today so that’s a really good feature cuz we don’t want those plants getting to all those shrivel up but for today we’re just going to leave that lid closed the only thing that I didn’t get in there is this tomato P because it’s a little bit too tall but we’re poting that on today so it doesn’t really matter so I definitely think that we’re worth investment and what I’m going to do with these benches is I might cover them with that artificial grass just like look a little bit more attractive and then I’m going to seal all this with varnish so it protects it for a little bit longer so for this job a really good size container and plenty for fish Blood and Bone I’ve already mixed a little bit in but when I plant this I need to strain it you can see that it’s grown to one side so we’re going to make a nice deep o very part of that plant because it’ll grow new Roots make a stronger plant and it’ll also be straight so after doing that we just fill that in then we’re going to firm it down these bottom leaves will take off doesn’t need them there we’ve got a stockier plant already we’re glad when this wind on down so for now we’ll just leave it at that it looks a lot better than it did we’ll make sure we keep his label in there as well just F that in so it don’t blow out and that’s first tomato plant that’s season so just to allow it time to recover I’ll put that in shade there we go and that will be staying in there until we start harvesting fresh homegrown cherry tomatoes so we’re starting to get a few things on go now and there’s a lot more to do as well so I think that’s a job well done it’s going to protect us plants from windburn while we’re get them to a good enough size to pot them on which in that thing shouldn’t be too long at all and I also learned last night that in this area your last frost date is the last week of April in Lincolnshire whereas in darbishire it was the second week in May so that’s really good we’ve got a couple of weeks jump on season so as you can see things are now starting to come together and don’t forget we’ve got a couple of those two tier Planters on way as well which should be here in a couple of days we’ll get them put together we’ll put them across front of that van and we’ll start getting some plants in and we’ve got lots of seeds that we still haven’t sewn so we need to get that sorted out as well but for saer an hour that’s now all together looking after his plants and at the same time bringing them on since we haven’t got a greenhouse to do that anymore we’ll just make it work the best way that we can and thank you once again to his latest donators I’ll put your names on at the end of the screen thank you so much for your generosity and we really do appreciate it so if you want to see what’s going to happen over the next couple of days please hit that subscribe button press that notifications Bell and I’ll see you next time take care

  1. I so admire your tenacity and perseverance Ivan. You are a true inspiration. I look forward to your future blogs. All the best 👍

  2. Looking good Ivan 👍 Our last frost date in Filey is around the 14th of May!!! Its a slower start to the growing season for us. That said, if you're near the sea, the sea warms up in the summer and it tends to make for a milder autumn/winter so we gain at the latter part of the year. Are you able to put a few water butt's around the place Ivan? Might help with the watering. 😊

  3. Well done Ivan for keeping your chin up, taking the knocks and driving forward.

You’ll make it work and it may be a fantastic move in the end, that’s already great news regarding the last frost date.

    Well played good sir👏

  4. Nice to see you get so much done already mate. Like many others have said, love that cold frame and may have to invest in 1 for next year.

  5. Love the cold frame Ivan. I have a small area of container gardening too. Have had a couple of small “plastic greenhouses” but no good in wind despite tying down. Will look to see of if I can get something similar to yours. We get wind where I live in NZ too. You are going well getting set up.🌻

  6. Genius use of the benches to guard the cold frame from the wind and stabilise it.
We were supposed to get windy too, but instead, 17c and a brisk breeze in N E Scotland…A bonny day.

  7. Cold frame very nice. Great size too if you have to cover with netting when doors are opened if needed..great idea with stick for security.. If you paint it grey or black and it will look like it came that way. Are your planting sides of caravan facing north/south or east/west? We all are so enjoying your ideas. You will be the envy of your new neighbors..especially when harvest time starts..Hope you're enjoying this part of your new journey. Carry On…..

  8. I can't really express the admiration i have for you Ivan, your knowledge and experience should be shared much wider than you tube.
May I suggest you send a video to Gardeners World to inspire other caravan owners

  9. I love that cold frame, I’ve never seen one like that , I live in Cornwall and we get a lot of strong winds. I had a plastic zip up kind of greenhouse which I used for storage but it blew away last Autumn, so my green house is chock bloc full of pots and all the other paraphernalia, making it a tight squeeze for storing plants as it’s been too cold and wet to put many outside. That’s a marvellous solution for some of my plants. I shall look out for one. You’re doing a fantastic job Ivan you have really took it on the chin and I think you will be much happier now in your own home.❤️

  10. Considering the space you have come from and gone to, I think you have done brilliantly, it couldn’t have been easy giving away all your greenhouses and equipment. So well done you looking fab.

  11. Free water supply is a huge bonus when you're a gardener Ivan. Well done, another winner 🏆 Just potted on some of our tomato plants, we've moved some of them out of our conservatory into the green house. Hope we won't regret that after discussing the late frosts up here. We did grow some outside last year and we were pretty successful. Hate throwing any plants away so we just planted them randomly around the garden. This year we'll be following your advice and putting any spare tomato plants in containers against a warm wall. 🤞🤞

  12. Very nice Ivan. I’m a new subscriber. Have watched several of your videos. You grow a LOT of things! You have great ingenuity and tenacity. Your new place looks great. Building the benches will help in the summer too, to keep the pots off the hot concrete. I’m a new food gardener. We built a garden “house” of sorts, with wood and chicken wire here in northeast Florida. Lots of critters here, raccoons, possums, lots of digging squirrels 🐿️ and the birds. We start in early March here. We built it on a concrete slab we had already. It got very hot for the containers on the concrete, so we put down shredded wood mulch on the floor, and mulched most plants with clean mini straw. It’s amazing to grow your own food. We just harvested a bunch of green beans and cherry tomatoes and green bell peppers for the first time, and had them with dinner. They taste Sooo good ❣️ What a difference, like nothing I’ve ever had before from the market. I will be watching your progress and wish you all the best with your new home and garden. 🤗❤️🌱🍅🥕🫑

  13. How do you know when to open up the lid on your cold frame? I've never understood how people know when to open greenhouse windows, etc.
