as you can probably tell we’ve been out this morning and done a bit of shopping so we can get this Caravan container garden started and we’ve picked up a nice selection of pregrown plants obviously I’m going to be quite behind with what’s happened over the last few weeks so it don’t hurt to cheat now again so we got a few nice plants from garden center and a selection of pots and seeds things like that I also picked up some shots cuz you can plant shots at this time of year to harvest in Autumn some really nice size bulbs as well and you get 10 on a called Red Sun so we’ll get those in a container as soon as we also picked up a couple of these containers bad size I think they’re only 3.99 each from own bargain or somewhere like that but good size containers and the 15 in diameter so these will be all right for a couple of tomato plants or something we a 100% decided at the moment so that’s those two things and of course we got to sell some tomato food we’re going to need that to encourage these plants to grow even quicker I also bought the propagator all them things that I left behind I had loads of these but I thought these were quite reasonable you get a pack the four and you’ve got the tray inserts I’ll just take come out and show them you so you get these cells obviously you get four of those and each tray a old 24 plants so that’s pretty good and then we’ve got as lids and as bottom treay as well perfect to just drop in there sew seeds and then pop that lid on we’ve got four really nice little propagators and we’ve got a little table right outside at window so we you can sew some seeds over the next few days and then just pop them on that Windle and it’ll just keep them nice and warm through the day and then as soon as those plants do emerge they’re going to grow quite quick because I’m not taking much of anything outside at the moment because it is very windy again this the second day on trout where we’ve had gusting winds so not a good idea to be putting his plants outside in that they will get leave burn then I’ve bought a selection of PL plants as well and some seeds we bought some of these they can be grown in containers and I think they’re called Deuce Province I think that’s how you pronounce it but you get quite a lot of seeds 350 seeds and I think that pack cost 250 or something like that so we can just keep rewing those dwarf Peas I got bit of lettuce as well this one I’ve grown before and it’s called Oak Leaf they grow brilliant if you’ve never tried those get some of those seeds and give them a go and then I’ve got another salad mix so that’s you cut and come again salads there’s quite a few different types in there got some rocket cuz that’s really nice to mix in with your salads some more spring onions they’re ones that I usually buy they’re called White Lisbon so again we can get some nice spring onions grown in containers I’ve got some French beans and these ones are dwarf ones as well so a container like the one you’ve just seen or even a bit smaller we can just get some of those growing and we’ll have some really nice French beans and these are slender ones as well so you can pick them quite young and they’re really nice I thought I’d try some swed as well that’s called invitation but sweds don’t grow huge and the tops don’t grow massive either so I’m pretty sure we can get a couple of sweds growing and then I bought some of these and we bought these and tried them last year and they worked really well these are Paris silver skin onions or cocktail onions and I remember last year I had some of these in a container and once they get talk about the size of a marble uist them but I left a container of those to grow on and they got about that big and there was really nice sweet onions so I’m going to do that again this year so quite a lot of seeds to get started and we’re going to be on that starting tomorrow but I also picked up some pregrown plants these are quite small they don’t look brilliant but these particular plants never do they’re called tum in Tom cherry tomatoes so we can grow those in containers or hanging baskets and because I haven’t actually got any at the moment cuz I left them behind in Garden in a tree I thought it’d be a good idea to buy a few so we’ve got a couple of them to start with and I going to get some more so we can have lots of baskets and containers of these cherry tomatoes I bought a chili plant that’s for something different I’m not a fan of op chilies at all but I like to grow them and see how they turn out and that one if you can see that picture the quite nice looking plants and it’s called basket of fire that tells me they’re quite hot a couple of other plants that I dropped on as well one is a fulls size tomato plant which we’re going to be putting in one of those big containers and that one is alante so we’ve got Alicante money maker and tumbling Tom cherry tomatoes and I’ve got another one here this is also a Hot Chili Pepper I don’t know why I’m growing them but I just like to grow different things every year that’s that one that one’s called Armageddon I don’t think I’m going to be eating any of those then we got some grafted plants as well which are quite good because grafted plants have got more resistance to the disease and cold that’s the reason why they grafting they’re a little bit more expensive though for a plant that size it’s like $4.99 and that one’s a sweet pepper really good size just a few things to get us started with us missing out in a few weeks and then I got another one but that is yellow peppers so we’ve got red and yellow peppers growing there and these are all all grafted plants and they had to get this one because it’s called mini stars and it’s a cucumber plant if you can see these pictures I hope you can so that one grows 3 to 4 in cucumbers bite size ones so definitely I wanted to give those a try this year and then this one is biggest plant we bought and this is called sugar gloss so if you look at the picture on that lots and lots of cherry tomatoes we love as cherry tomatoes throughout summer and his salads so we’re getting a nice combination of things going quite early but again because it’s a grafted plant these Al do perfectly fine outside not in Frost if it’s Frost you need to bring them back in don’t leave anything out in Frost but because they’re less susceptible to the cold and disease I think we should do quite well with these and that 49 9 is a pretty big plant so we’ve got quite a lot to do over the next few days which is good so we’ve had a bit of a slow start this year as you all know so now it’s time to catch up we’re going to get things potted on as quick as we can I’ve also bought three 50 L bags of compost as well to get us started and of course not forgetting we’ve got all the plants that we brought from home which it’s not a lot but we’ve got some really nice pepper plants there and these are a different one to those because these grow long sweet bell peppers so we’re hoping to get quite a mixture this year so it’s a good start for a little bit of cash so thank you so much for everybody that’s donated because a lot of the things that we’re going to need for this Caravan container garden is getting bought with money that we donated to channel which is brilliant and of course got quite a lot of ideas for other things this is only a little bit we’re going to get cold frames things like that we’re going to get some planters which are double tiered so we can have some up top some just below we can grow carrots and all sorts of things in there I haven’t bought those yet but they’ll be coming quite soon so I’m going to get a couple of them at front at Van maybe some smaller ones bit with trelles on B so we can grow things up and we’ve got lots of plans but when it comes to adapting to a different surroundings what we used to we have got to be a bit wary of the plants that we buy cuz we haven’t got a greenhouse so that is why I’ve chose to buy some that are a little bit more cold hardy or ones that are perfectly fine to grow outside but I also got these because we’ve got to adapt to his surroundings so I got a couple of these plant pots but they’re not just a plant they’re a good size but the You’ got to cut out and you tie up them to things so quickly before I go containers I’ll just show you why I bought these containers in particular so I’ll just show you what I’m doing with those we’re using them for this balcony there potato plants and everything’s coming on really nice we’ll get those potted on of it next day or so but these fit just right on this balcony so if we just pop them on like that that tire wrap goes underneath and secures it but they’re not going to come off once they’ve got composted but we can grow quite a few plants just on this area so making use of that vertical space so I think there a really good idea [Music] and we’ve got four on there plenty of space between them so I’ll probably put another two there as well and that’s a really good start to this container garden so I think there going to work really well we’re can put some of these tumbling Tom tomato plants in and let them Trail down that balcony I think that’s going to look brilliant and it’s really easy to protect them from anything that might want to chew on them and also very easy when it comes to harvest so these are going to be great so we’ll have a look at how much space we’ve got when we’ve got these on and maybe I’ll just pick up a few more because these weren’t expensive either so that’s about it for today tomorrow hopefully this wind’s going to die down we can actually get something done if not we’ll sew some things indoors in these propagators so we can still get some on its way and once again thank you so much to us latest donators I really do appreciate you General generosity and I’m going to put your names on screen at end of this video so thank you so much for doing that really generous of you and if you want to see progress for this Caravan container garden please hit that subscribe button press that notifications Bell and I’ll see you on the next one take care

  1. I too grew chillis last year and got a very good harvest. However, like you, I donโ€™t eat them much but wanted to see if I could grow them. I gave them away & used my usual dried crushed peppers when needed. I also grew celery which I donโ€™t like either. Am I mad ??

  2. Brilliant Ivan, love how you are not wasting any time getting started. Amazing to see your ideas for adaptable planting, making use of every inch of space. My main growing space here is only 5ft wide and 20ft long. I look forward to any new ideas you come up with. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  3. They are a good price the 15" containers.chillie plants I love but forgot – must get onto that id like to see the tier setup w carrots …. will wait patiently Wow those balcony fence pots are amazing

  4. Great to see you're settling in well, I love the caravan. I've got a few packs of the propagators too, remember to put holes in the inner trays as I didn't notice they didn't have them and didn't… Whoops. My partner enjoys your videos too and he's not even into gardening. Keep up the good work ๐Ÿ˜

  5. Lovely selection of plants and containers!
I planted some onions last November, they look healthy but should I expose the top of the onion. Thank you .

  6. Welcome to Lincolnshire ๐Ÿ˜Š I moved here in August; not not underestimate the wind! The strength, temperature and duration are like nothing I've experienced before! Attach the hanging baskets as if you don't want them stealing! Good luck and enjoy ๐Ÿ˜Š

  7. Ivan, please can you tell me what variety of bean seeds you bought? I have a spare 30 litre container so I thought I would try dwarf French beans for the first time.

  8. Love those balcony planters. Canโ€™t wait to see what other genius ideas you come up with. You have helped me so much. Enjoy your new home and all the best.

  9. I love for someone that doesn't like hot chillies, you buy ones that have the most vicious sounding names!

  10. Glad to see you back Ivan, and looking forward to seeing your outdoor space develop. I grew mini stars a couple of years ago and had a good crop! Tumbling roms is what i normally grow too. You got me thinking about peppers now๐Ÿ˜ƒTake care ๐ŸŒธ

  11. Watching you Ivan getting stuck in to your new gardening experience around the van..As always it's a pleasure to watch your short videos.. I am learning so much ..An trying lots of new things myself…I have just made a rayed bed an but 3inch legs on

  12. Dear Ivan, brilliant start so pleased for you. Are there any restrictions on the site to curtail all your plans for containers? Good start my friend. Claire Bristol uk x

  13. I got kicked off my allotment cos someone had their eye on it.
Had three greenhouses massive poly tunnel is what they were after. Anyway fast forward took all what I needed gave loads sold loads now back home .
I grow only what we will eat and I grow vertically. Amazon do some great ladder planters not too expensive. Got some planters on the fences like yours.

Are you allowed to have the pots around because some site donโ€™t do .
I wish you well on your new journey ๐Ÿ‘

  14. Ivan this is me and my husbands next dream -a static!
You may not remember but I posted that we live in rented accommodation but it is owned by a long standing estate where some people have been born and died (in there 80s and 90s)in the same property.
We are very fortunate but unfortunately the rent keeps going up ๐Ÿ˜ข
The only thing that concerns us is:
    1. Do you have to be out the van for so many weeks of the year and
    2. Does the van have to be replaced for a โ€œnewerโ€ one in years to come.
Love your channel and big hugs for your new way of life โค

  15. Good to see you settling in. I'm looking forward to seeing you develop your caravan container garden. All the best Andrew

  16. I bought those propagators ,they are really good but remember to put holes in the bottom ,as they don`t come with the holes done x

  17. Fabulous that you're already getting so organised Ivan. Our priority would have been checking out the opening hours of the local pub ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…Then the garden planning of course ๐Ÿ˜ฎ When we moved T'up North it took some time for us to get used to the change in weather conditions and how it influenced what we were able to grow. Soil conditions were an issue for us but we soon adjusted to it. You won't have that problem in those fantastic containers. Excited to see how things grow where you are. Another great video Ivan. Thank you. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  18. Great video ๐Ÿ˜Š and loved to hear you and Mrs Ivan have so many plans for your food garden. Are you allowed to have a greenhouse? I have an old polycarbon greenhouse nearly 15 years old that is starting to see better days now but I still use it. Last year I had a good look around and always trying to make money stretch as far as we can and having to keep up with the stealth taxes they like to call cost of living increases I purchased a Bramble – Walk In Compact Greenhouse, 6 Tier Shelves with Easy No Tool Assembly Frames and Clear PVC Cover for Small Garden Growing Plants – H195cm x W143cm x D73cm ยฃ45.00. What a little beauty โค it has turned out to be. So far it has stood the test of the months of high driving winds and months of rain… I purchased a thick winter fleece cover for it that is designed to fit the plastic house because i have rather large cactus plants in pots that i stored in it over winter and the cover gave great protection and is washable. Started my seeds early (i always do) and this little plastic house has served us as good as our greenhouse, everything germinated. My hubby put some broken patio patio slabs on the bottom shelves to give the plastic frame stability. The runnerbeans, peas, cucumbers, peppers and toms have grown lovely along with garden flower seeds. The beans are ready for taking to our allotment, so the little plastic house will now become a summer home to my pepper plants ๐Ÿ˜Š. It is truly value for money. โค to you and Mrs Ivor and i look forward to your next video.

  19. I never understand anyone who says buying plugs/plants later in the season is "cheating". You still have to look after them and give them the right conditions to thrive.

  20. I so love your videos. I have M.E and days where I'm suffering a crash (post-exertional malaise, which feels like 'flu with a hangover), your gentle voice and lovely Northern accent is soothing to my frayed nervous system.
