Lawn Care

That’s my neighbors section on top where I did NOT apply pre-emergent this fall — if you don’t want poa annua every year, use the damn pre-emergent.

I suggest prodiamine one year, dithiopyr the next year, alternating every year.

IT WORKS.

I would have went to the driveway line. What’s an extra 100 sqft?

I used Anderson’s pre emergent and still have a S ton of Poa. Will use a different brand next year

  3. The problem for us was that we had a record temp in February and that’s when I prob should have put it down. Still seemed way too early for my area and now the poa is everywhere since I didn’t put it down

I used lesco every 3 months. 4 apps every year. I still get poa in AL. I guess my timing is off but I thought applying every 3 months covered me

This isn’t the own you think it is lol either that’s a terrible picture or there’s no difference

Which preemergent did you use in the fall?

Wait a second. I thought it was best practice to apply in the early spring. So deploy pre emergent in the fall, or do both?

  8. So if I used prodiamine this spring, use it again in fall, then switch it up in spring?

I finally got at least part of my lot in decent shape to where I put some down this spring. Hoping I can time fall overseeding well enough to be able to put pre-emergent down in the fall too.

  9. I hate to say this, but I would have applied the pre-emergent to your “neighbors” tiny ass grass strip.

I routinely had to do this when I lived in a townhouse … if I didn’t want my front yard to look like it was next to a sandlot, I had to treat my yard *and* my neighbor’s yard. It cost me an extra $15 a year, and it was worth it.

It looks like the neighbors lawn is suffering from alittle heat stress being joined to the driveway more than anything. 😆

I use premergent and the first year I had no poa annua except for a 5cm strip where I missed application.

I use the premergent every Autumn and it does a great job.

  12. Serious q from a noob, why is POA annua not desirable?

What about those who applied it and still got these damn weeds ?

Localize your recommendations. What works in many places does not work in Colorado. If you live in Colorado. Diopther and Prodiamine don’t do jack shit. In my experience, in Colorado, post emergent of 2,4,D. Once you have broadleafs under control, you’ll probably have a couple grassy weeds. You’ll have to let what you have go to seed to properly identify it. If you’re lucky it’s Foxtail and that can be successfuly controlled with Quinclorac. If your not lucky and you have Bromegrass listen to this. You can chase down treatments of Tenacity per the University of Iowa study. At the end of two years you will have just as much Bromegrass as you had before. The only answer is to kill the Bromegrass and your KBG with Glyphosate. Then reseed or resod.

I’m not happy with my lawn care company. Dealing with all this now.
