I dont know if anything can be done, but I noticed my (otherwise until very recently happy) African violet had been a little bit droopy, so I decided to refresh the water in its self watering container and when I attempted to look under some of the bottom leaves to see if anything was dying underneath the entire top just came off. Any suggestions? Can I root the top portion? I've had this for years 😭

Cut all flowers off, cut leaves until you have 12, scrape the “skin” off of the stem, stick in 50/50 AV dirt perlite mix, bottom water for 5 min, stick in a plastic bag for a month, and open the bag once a week to freshen the air.
Might want to cut the end of the “neck” to see if there is more rot. Cut as much rot off until you get to unrotten part, sanitize as you cut to prevent the rot from spreading. Then pluck the lower leaves and flowers, lightly scrape the neck to expose the green part, put in the potting mix and then put it in a ziplock bag for humidity.
As you follow the words of wisdom here, take heart and remember that it may look very pitiful before it finally takes root and thrives. I had what I now recognized as a sucker on the side break off of a very sentimental one of mine. It took what felt like a long time to flourish and it bloomed this year!
