I moved recently to a house that had these beautiful peonies planted outside. Unfortunately, they blooms are too heavy for the stems so they're just laying down. Is this a water issue?
Mine have a beach umbrella over them presently, rain expected. Cut them for a beautiful bouquet. Next year put a tomato cage over it when it starts to sprout in early spring.

No some peonies are just enormously top heavy. get a peony hoop or cage, they need to be propped up. mine are HUGE and flop over so they are in jail (a strong metal fence tube around them props them up). such divas lol
You do know about Peony support cages, right? I mean, if someone grows peonies, they have those nifty things. So are your peonies just sulking because you forgot to set your’s up?

peony cages are your friend! you can use them for a variety of top heavy flowers

Try a wire/loop support. Find some with rubber coating, and they’ll last many years. I have used them on rose bush cane’s too.

I use the hildene star method (helpful videos on YouTube)

It’s probably a little late for this year but next year when they start to get a bud about a pea to marble size, cut the 1-2 side smaller buds on the same stem. It helps the bigger one bloom bigger and helps with the droop

I always used a tomato cage to keep them upright.

Are you sure a dirty bitch didnt step on them?

Even with support, rain can ruin them. I now actually cut (gasp) my peonies and bring them inside to enjoy their voluptuous beauty. A few sharp shakes usually disloges any ants.

Google peony cage. I have these permanently in the ground to support my peonies as they ground and it helps keep the flowers from flopping. I also use them on my yarrow.

I flip a tomato cage upside down with the legs bent over and that supports them pretty well and gets hidden by the foliage pretty well

You would be too if your reproductive pregame was to let ants eat sap off your naughty bits.

Try a cage or staking them

Here’s a nice way to stake them up without having a visible cage: https://gardenlady.com/how-to-stake-a-flopping-peony-attractively/
