Awesome! Tomatoes are tough as nails! 😀

This happened to my potatoes and I can see new leaves finally, fingers crossed for the fighter plants 🌿

I don’t put my tomatoes in the ground until after 5/15 for this reason.

  4. I’m in Michigan and my stuff stays in the grow tent until mid-May. I’ve been fooled by nice weather before.

6A here, I won’t plant till around Mother’s Day. Too cold at night

  6. mizushimo

The rule is that nights should be above 50F before you put tomatoes in the ground.

  7. Based on my experience with growing tomatoes is that they cannot be killed – only inconvenienced.

Normally we plant our tomatoes on Mother’s Day *and* put a Wall O Water on each one. I thought oh, global warming, I’ll plant them a week early. But the forecast this weekend is high wind warning, chance of rain/snow, and below freezing temps. So I guess we’ll go ahead with Mother’s Day.

my mother had a gardening rule I never break. Do not plant anything till after Mother’s Day.

  10. Check your local areas average last frost. *Then* check the record last frost.

Awesome! Must be nice to know they weren’t actually killed just wilted. Enjoy your tomaters! What variety?

One year I planted hella peppers and I was so proud to get them out on time. Then we had a late frost. Then we had a hailstorm. Womp womp!

In Pure Michigan, I also wait till mid-May. 80° this week 30° next 🤣

The 6a/b zone line now runs through my backyard and I am not even contemplating putting plants in the ground for two more weeks. Haven’t even planted peas and beans yet. I found that trying to sneak in early never did me any good.

Zone means nothing, look at your last frost date. Plan to wait a few weeks after that. I live in 7a with a 50:50 last frost date of April 10 and absolutely never plant tomatoes in April. If it’s been a really warm spring I will plant them May 1 with row cover fabric. Usually I just wait until May 10 or so though. Where I live mid April is still up in the air on what season it wants to be while mid May is pretty damned sure it wants to be summer. Late May is barreling towards surface of the sun with lows rarely below 65 and highs pushing triple digits. Go figure.

Surprised no one else is saying anything about how close these are planted together. What method are you using to trellis?

This is what I’m hoping for mine. Pretty sure two of them are toast but fortunately I did save some back in my tent just in case and one of them may come back.

Last year I didn’t start until june

This gives me hope. I planted 5 of mine too early and they also got destroyed by frost. Hoping they will bounce back too 🤞🏻

That’s lucky. Plant after Mother’s Day or put them in a water wall next time
