Looking for tips on what type of budget friendly grass or ground cover would grow happily in my front and side yard. Both areas are an awful, presumably poor quality sandy soil that seems almost waterproof (water pools on top but just under that layer stays bone dry unless I soak it). The front yard is mostly shady and plagued by unstoppable oak shoots and the side yard is full exposure to blazing FL sun. I would prefer sod, especially in the front, for aesthetic reasons (yes I’ve heard all the anti-lawn/native arguments but personally prefer the look of grass, plus this is a small area and we have a lot of varied native vegetation already) but I am open to ground covers if they spread fast, don’t require a ton of water, and can tolerate a good amount of foot traffic.
