needing inspiration for this area in my front yard

gets overwhelmed with moss and weeds. wife wanted that bench, never uses it. I like sitting on a front step in the evening. it gets the sun in the afternoon/early evening.

Just looking for something low maintenance. we need to get the front path fixed/redone, and the temptation is high just to replace this area with poured concrete too. wife likes to decorate for halloween so thought she'd like that solid ground area to work on, but she's not convinced.

    power wash the stone.

    string lights above.

add color with a seat cushion – blue?

colorful Large pot for annual plants- I buy the discount annuals at big box and enjoy them for awhile before they stop blooming. easy to swap out.

    cheers!

I think the river rock/gravel needs replaced, and the timber edging needs replaced. I’d power wash the steppers. I’d use brick pavers on mortar for the edging, and get a small sized river rock to fill back in. I would put down weedmat beneath the rock and pavers.

Have you thought about putting pigs there?

I’d think about extending the space so it has more use cases.

Also try to think about what you want to have this space used for – do you like to have coffee out there in the mornings? Chat with neighbors? That will guide the furniture you put out there.

I would also put up something to make the space cozier, especially planters (various heights are more interesting). Maybe a part-length privacy screen so it feels more intimate while still allowing halloween decorations to be visible. If the space feels less exposed it could be more inviting for your wife to use the bench. I would also get a little table and maybe some more comfortable seats (esp with arm rests) so hanging out there is easier to do.

It looks like it would benefit from a gravel refresh between the pavers, but thats definitely going to entail some labor.

I would definitely replace the front retaining wood if you can. If you don’t go with a privacy screen you might consider making the shape more organic and matching the foundation planting bed you have behind it.
