Garlic!

After a LONG wait i harvested my first attempt mp at garlic today. I planted this last fall and expected it to be a tad bigger but it smells and tastes better than any garlic I’ve ever purchased. Two different varieties, but not sure on the names. Any tips on drying these guys out for storage?

Ain’t nothing wrong with that garlic. Enjoy it! Could definitely have been left in the ground longer to get larger cloves. I think the rule of thumb is about 5 dried out leaves (and be sure to cut the scape once it makes a full loop).

As for curing them, it’s too late. You’ve gotta leave the outer layers with a bit of dirt on them, hung up in a dry place with plenty of airflow for a few w ks. If it were me I’d eat them sooner rather than later, or preserve them in oil, dehydrate them, etc.

They look great! You grew the best garlic you can get your hands on currently. You could’ve gotten bigger bulbs if you’d left it in the ground a bit more and you normally want to cure the garlic. You cure it by letting them dry out for 3-4 weeks after harvesting.

Remember to save a couple bulbs for fall! You’ll have an endless supply of garlic.

Next time, when you’re curing it, just make sure it’s in a dark place with good air circulation, not too humid. You’ll get there!
