what’s up it’s Bobby K and I got a cool
project behind us this thing started out
as really just grass that went up at a
slope to foundation and got a hell of a
transformation let’s
go all right so starting from the top
this is where the grass went up to and
you see I’m transitioning already boom
boom boom down to a lower level I think
a lot of companies are going to come in
and they’re going to throw in a wall and
bring everything up to grade why not
create multiple elevations that’s the
cool part about something like this you
got a spot for eating got a spot for a
barbecue and the one thing that we
wanted to do is not rip out that tree
why it’s beautiful it provides shade it
does its job so by making these curvy
landscape beds and Patio now we
preserved the tree we’ve got multiple
levels but then you got to figure out
well what kind of materials do we want
to pick for here how do you do that all
right so here is the main tip that I
could give you that is going to make
everything easy when you’re selecting
the material for your project the
retaining wall block cap the pavers what
you notice that they have in common here
is they’re pretty similar in color but
how did I come up with that how did we
pick that out look at the fireplace that
is what depicted everything here the
color of the sighting and the fireplace
I knew that a Bethany color was going to
be perfect for this and what we did is
we have a multi-piece PA and then a 6
by9 border so what happens is when you
get to all these curves and you don’t
want those little wedges in there you
strike a line you cut out the existing
the overlay and then boom you put in the
6×9 and they slap that up against there
everything is nice and tight and then a
polymeric sand sweeps in between it’s
like a flexible mortar so you’ve got
Bethany Bethany
B and we have a seating wall that’s also
of a Bethany and the fire pit is of a
Bethany so play off the collar tones of
your house when you’re selecting all
that material now let me tell you
something when you get a fire pit this
is a big Miss big miss a lot of times
the seating wall looks cool but it’s not
the most comfortable thing in the world
so here’s what you do just to ensure
that everybody’s going to spend more
time out here on your investment make a
little bit of room in between the
seating wall and the fire pit at least
three to4 feet I’d say why so that you
can put these bad boys here so you never
leave and you really hang out enjoy this
also let’s light up the investment we
got underap Lights under all this and
all the stairs and that’s purposeful
we’re creating a mood we’re creating
Ambience fire lighting nice chairs
hanging out give me a stogy I don’t
smoke who cares that’s what you do so a
couple more things we’re walking along
here we want to tie the whole house
together we got another grade another
step there you see the elevations versus
making it all flat set of doors here
nice easy step this is a little older
couple so bam they can go right in and
then come out comfortably we’re not
going down a bunch of stairs so we’re
making everything gradual that’s your
elevations we got another destination
Nook out here this could have simply
been a little walkway and go over but
why not extend this thing out and create
another destination this isn’t a ton of
square footage and this really makes
this just another level patio it really
does now here’s the key you got all this
beautiful hardscaping all the
transitions
but we need some Landscaping some
softscaping they got a ton of deer here
so we had to put in plants that we know
the deer aren’t going to take you know
eat up it’s full sun and I wanted to
make it look soft and natural so
bringing these beds out away from the
hardscaping bringing you into the yard a
little bit and then cutting in a natural
3 to 4 in Spade shovel Edge is key
soften the place enjoy the hardscaping
this thing’s an absolute Cherry if
you’ve been watching in this channel for
a while you know this all starts with
the 3D design you can’t expect someone
to want to do something like this
without knowing what the finished
product looks like so get a design if
you’re ever considering a backyard
Renault like this you want to make sure
you know the materials we talked about
that what are the elevations going to
look like we talked about that how about
how this stuff is actually put in is it
on a clean Rock base is it on Sand which
we don’t do anymore that’s kind of a no
no you want papers to shift around put
them on sand make sure you’re paying
attention to that kind of stuff it’s all
about the quality it’s all about the
design it’s all about painting the
picture before a shovel hits the ground
that’s the key to this whole thing if
