So far I've observed a surprising lot of planeria, some scuds, daphnia, bladder snails, I noticed a tunnel system within the silt layer but I haven't seen a critter associated with it just yet. It's amazing watching the ecosystem evolve as time goes on as well as viewing it as a capsule of my local ecosystem.
I've collected specifically water samples from areas around food sources like underwater roots as well as stagnant areas. I've added a layer of rock, small pebbles, sediment then silt that's settled over a day's time.i have 2 freshwater plants I can't identify and a root section.

Lots of critters!
Did you want feedback? If so, read on, if not, ignore lol.
Remove the root, it will decay and cause a stink. Leave one stick and remove rest of debris. The plant..can’t tell what it is, but with that stem it looks like it’s wanna emerge from the water…probably a type of semi-aquatic weed that will grow tall and requires way more nutrition than a jar can provide. But do find out for sure what it is before doing anything.
My suggestion is to get a fish tank plant, avoid direct sunlight, and your jar should last for years.
Ooo I love planaria!
That’s a big flatworm for a puddle scoop 😳
