Native Plant Gardening

Just got ten acres in Colorado, I think I’m in zone 5b, and can’t wait to turn it into a native garden it’s been used for horse grazing for years. Not sure where to start though? I’ve got some county specific grass seed blends but do I need to remove the existing grass or can I overseed?

I’d wait a year and see what comes up! It doesn’t look like it’s been seeded to forage grasses so you could see lots of native plant diversity recover.

Where are you specifically? Zones are weird in Colorado.

10 acres is a lot of space. I’d for sure wait and see what comes up. What are you planning to do with all of that space? If the area is primarily grassland, you’ll probably want to periodically mow or burn it. I know fire is a touchy subject out west, but you can get certified to do controlled burns and do it safely.

No advice to offer but wow you are taking on a noble cause good for you man, hope you restore the habitat to its former glory before the horse grazing.
