Front Yard Garden

Stunning Succulent Garden | Drought Tolerant Plants | Container Gardening | California Garden Tour

Check out this amazing succulent and cacti garden in Souther California!

In this video, I take you on a tour of my brother’s garden in San Diego… he and his roommate have an amazing collection of succulents, cacti and drought tolerant plants!

I took this video footage late last year to document my brother and his roommate’s amazing garden at their rental property prior to my brother moving into a new house with his girlfriend across town. Make sure to stick around to the end because I also give you a tour of the new garden my brother and his girlfriend set up at their new house!

If you rent your house and you’ve shied away from starting your own home garden, I highly suggest you try container gardening… container gardening allows you to pack and move your garden in the event you decide to move to a new house!

I hope you enjoy this video and I hope it’s inspired you to start your own drought tolerant succulent garden or to give container gardening a try! Remember to hit those like and subscribe buttons so you can hang out with me in future videos!

hey everyone it’s me Matt welcome back
to my channel I hope you’ve all had a
great week and that you’re having an
even better weekend so in today’s video
I’m going to be giving you a garden tour
of my brother’s Garden in San Diego
California so my brother used to live
with some roommates in a house in
Pacific Beach and they had an amazing
yard with some amazing plants I actually
took all of this video footage at the
end of last year to document their
Garden prior to my brother moving out
and getting a new place with his
girlfriend last December and make sure
to stick around to the end because I’m
also going to show you the new Garden my
brother and his girlfriend set up at
their new house over the last 4 months
jumping right into it welcome to my
brother’s former House and Garden this
was easily one of my favorite views of
the garden as you walked out the front
door onto the deck you could see all the
containers and sneak peeks of the front
yard just beyond the railing my brother
and his friends rented this house my
brother put together this front yard
garden and one of his roommates put
together the courtyard Garden that we’ll
take a look at in a little bit you’ll
notice a lot of the plants are in
containers this allows them to create
beautiful planted spaces but also gives
the flexibility to pack and move the
garden if they decide to move to a new
house taking a closer look at some of
these plants my brother says he loves
the everchanging aspect of container
gardening there’s always something to
rep pod or rearrange he has the ability
to set up beautiful displays but then he
can move everything around after a few
months for a different look it’s always
new and it’s never finished you can see
he has a variety of plants with most of
them being succulents ornamental trees
and saplings as well as cacti my
brother’s favorite plant is actually
this amazing Medusa head succulent
here’s a closer look at it it’s got such
unique color and texture it’s actually
one of my favorites too my brother
prefers chaos gardening he tries to stay
away from linear plantings and perfectly
symmetrical Arrangements he also likes
to prune plants into tree form and make
miniature Landscapes within pots I just
love his gardening aesthetic he’s done
such a great job at incorporating
different colors and materials and I
really like how he throws in different
wood tones as well as rocks and shells
check out this Burrow’s tail succulent I
just love how it Cascades out of the pot
it’s so healthy and it looks so great
next to this SEO Palm my brother amassed
his plant collection over the last 7
years he says about half were propagated
from cuting about 25% were discarded
plants he found at curbs or in Alleyways
and the rest were store-bought check out
this vertical pallet garden almost all
these succulents were propagated from
cuting it’s just so vibrant and so
colorful he’s also gotten really
creative and built these tables from
discarded wood scraps and pallets to
display his plants it’s so eclectic
again I love all the textures and the
way he incorporates rocks shells and
even
statues coming down from the deck to the
front yard area you can see he’s got
another Burrows tail succulent this one
is much larger than the one up on the
deck panning across the yard I love The
Turquoise Door leaning against the fence
you can see the red Bugan via and yes
that’s a putting green in the front yard
the artificial Turf and drought tolerant
plants help make this a really low
maintenance Garden you can see he’s also
got some smaller pallet Gardens filled
with succulents along with his larger
collection of cacti I also really like
how he uses the wooden crates to elevate
the containers this space is just so
peaceful and I really love the use of
the mirror hanging on the
fence looking back towards the house you
can see more of the putting green
leading up to the front deck and check
out how he repurposed this wheelbarrow
as a raised bed container it’s just such
a unique idea look at all the beautiful
colorful plants filling the wheelbarrow
and how cool is that concrete face
sculpture around the side of the deck
you can see how he’s tucked some more
container plants amongst the larger
inground bird of paradise plants the
purple and red flowers are a really nice
pop of color and then along the driveway
they’ve planted this area with more
succulents and Incorporated some yard
ornaments and rocks I love how they’ve
managed to use cactuses and succulents
to make this area look so so Lush and so
full back up on the deck here’s another
view of this planting area again I love
the use of statues and rocks and check
out the flower buds on this aloe
plant here’s a quick peek at the house
plants in the front entryway as we make
our way to the side
Courtyard the courtyard is right off the
kitchen area check out how cool this
space is it’s also so vibrant and full
of color you can see there’s a another
pallet garden and a whole lot more
container cacti and succulents as I
previously mentioned this area was put
together by my brother’s roommate he’s
also amassed quite the collection of
unique plants panning back towards the
house you can see the plants from a
different angle and you’ll notice the
table and chairs in the center of the
courtyard this definitely makes a great
spot to hang out and then over here
you’ll get a better look at the planting
area between the two sets of French
doors leading into the house again
another burough tail succulent spilling
out of erased container nestled amongst
such a beautiful collection of plants a
lot of the containers in both Gardens
were found at estate sales garage sales
and Facebook Marketplace I actually went
to an estate sale with my brother
earlier this year and he picked up over
a dozen ceramic and terracotta pots for
only
$70 they’ve also collected and exchanged
a ton of plant cuting with friends and
family my brother says their plants have
kids grandkids and great grandkids all
over San Diego and it’s so awesome to
see friends and family enjoying pieces
of plant that are still growing in their
container
gardens like I said earlier I took all
this video footage at the end of last
year to document this amazing Garden
since then my brother and his girlfriend
moved in together into a really cool
Spanish Bungalow across town so let’s
head over to their new place and I’ll
quickly show you how they’ve set
everything up in their New Garden before
showing you my brother and his
girlfriend’s New Garden I wanted to
mention that my brother owns a gardening
and Landscape Company in San Diego I
linked his website and social media
accounts in the description of this
video make sure to check him out he’s
also going to be starting his own
gardening YouTube channel too all right
welcome to my brother and his girlfriend
Spanish Bungalow in New Garden a lot of
these plants should look familiar since
they brought over about 150 of them from
the other house again that’s the beauty
of container gardening if you’ve shied
away from starting a home Garden because
you rent your house then you should
definitely consider container gardening
that way you can bring all your plants
with you in the event you decide to move
walking into the backyard you can see
they’ve got this great sidey yard where
theyve intermingled their potted plants
amongst the mature Jade plants that were
already planted at the house and check
out their back deck my brother and his
girl friend have done such an amazing
job setting this space up they’ve
thrifted the majority of the furniture
it gives the space such a great Vibe and
all the plants really make this a
special place to hang out and entertain
friends and family here’s another look
at the backyard looking from the deck
towards the house I love how they’ve set
this corner up with the large potted
jade plant and the wood framed glass
window pain leaning against the house
you can see even the raised wheelbarrow
planter made it over to the new house
it’s found a home right here in front of
the deck and you can see how they’ve
even positioned some of the smaller
containers right in the garden bed
they’ve even tucked some of the tables
and containers in this planting bed I
just love how this all came together all
the plants have found a new home in this
new
Garden I hope this yard tour video has
given you some inspiration for your own
garden there’s so many possib abilities
when it comes to container gardening
remember to hit those like And subscribe
buttons so you can hang out with me in
future videos and be sure to check out
my brother’s social media accounts
linked in the description of this video
I hope you enjoyed this I hope you have
a great rest of your day and I’ll see
you in the next video

  1. “Chaos gardening” – I love it! Enjoyed watching this tour of two incredible spaces and hearing about the lineage of all these plants in the greater San Diego area – how cool. I can see the gardening talent and love for plants runs in the family 💚

  2. The San Diego area is a great place to buy succulents. It's a good thing I'm far enough North to not go there all the time. I, too, grow most things in containers and now have a lot in need of propagating and/or re-potting – as soon as our weather improves!

  3. Does your brother watch Laura Eubanks also from Southern California? Design for Serenity is her business and she specializes in succulents! Kevin at Epic Gardening is in San Diego. Seems like they would have similar interests. Great footage of your brother's garden. Beautiful garden ideas!

  4. The succulents look stunning layered on shelves – like a little theatre of plants! I’ve just subscribed and look forward to seeing your garden and your channel develop. I have a gardening channel too that you might like – check it out!
