Will ginger take over?

I have a little shady area (Wisconsin 5b) where I've planted wild ginger, Bloodroot, and spring beauty among others, and this year the ginger really took off. Does anyone know if the ginger will get too thick for the others to survive? Is it easy to split a ginger plant? Thanks in advanced!

Yea I think the expanding ginger patch could roll over the claytonia. It forms a pretty dense shallow root mat that keeps things out, and can make a large and expanding colony.

Bloodroot is easily divisible and moveable. Claytonia is easily moved BUT chipmunks (in my experience) will then dig it and eat it. I think the smell is masked when they’re in the ground but comes through a fresh hole.

Remove the log and let it all move into the lawn…

Curious how much sun you get there. I have some ginger in pots right now and haven’t really decided where to put it because I am unsure of its sun sensitivity

Probably and it might also pop up in some other unexpected places in your yard too!

It is super easy to split ginger, but I will also note that these species all cohabitate naturally so I truthfully wouldn’t be worried about it. Claytonia tends to pop up before bloodroot by a good bit so by the time the ginger is fully matured the Claytonia will have died back for the year.

I have had wild ginger for ages and it grows so slowly that it has never overwhelmed anything else. You can always get a shovel and trim it back
