My husband’s grandmother planted these peonies decades ago, and this is my first spring caring for them since we bought the homestead in January. They seem to be pretty self sufficient, but I’d love any tips to ensure they continue to flourish.

Those bulbs need support. Peonies are typically too top heavy. I’d put a tall tomato cage on them to keep the stems supported.

And sadly in two days all the flowers will be spread across the ground. If they are anything like mine

ants opening up peony buds a very old myth that just won’t die. there is no truth to it. there are nodules on peony stems that produce nectar that ants like to eat. because of this, they will (somewhat) protect the plant from other insects.

I love peonies. And I keep planting as many as I can. This is exciting.

Do you want ants? Because this is how you get ants. 🙂

Wow! That is an impressive plant. I’ve only seen one this large once before. This 90 year old lady had one growing underneath her fig trees. Was so impressive it inspired me to get one of my own. Now in its 3rd year and a ways to go to get this gorgeous.
