This is so unfair to the poor plants. The lilac must be in utter shock. Hate these kind of weather surprises.

Oh no! Not the lilacs.
TrainXing
Meh— lilacs are all over Russia, If they can make it there they’ll be fine in Colorado.

Ugh. Prince warned us, but it’s never fun when it happens.

At least you got some snow

That’s exactly why you should not move to Colorado. That’s what it does April 27th. It’s legal in your state. Stay home, don’t come here.

That is some awful heavy looking snow too. RIP

A broom is good for knocking snow off. I’ve had to do that before.

Does putting sheets on the plants help at all? Or is it simply too cold?
GAYmmmK
Normal for Colorado.

What elevation are you at? I was watching the weather channel this morning trying to figure out how bad the Midwest was going to get slammed when I noticed the cold air from Colorado slowly feeding into the warm moist air out of the Gulf.

If it’s below freezing out, keep the snow on them. It will help insulate them against colder temperatures.

i’ve seen 4th of july fireworks cancelled due to snow in the CO mountains

The snow insulates plants from the cold.

They’ll be alright. They’re evolved to live here, and this is part of that. Thankfully, we didn’t get a hard freeze and the hail wasn’t insane in most areas.

We had one like that in May when I lived there 20+ years ago. RIP roses I’d JUST put in the ground 😭

Those crazy winds a couple weeks ago were a huge bummer too. One of my trees was blooming and it knocked off alllll the petals. So sad
timesuck47
Methinks if you didn’t do a thing by tomorrow afternoon you wouldn’t have even noticed it snowed.
You were just looking for an excuse to mess around in your yard. [Totally something I would do.]
