Pothos

What’s happening to its roots

I got this marble about a couple of months ago. It wasn’t doing well in the grower’s pot, so I decided to water propagate and help it develop roots. Went well for a few weeks until all of a sudden I saw these white thingy on the main root. Strangely the exact same happened to a different jar of golden pothos too just last week, and I got so grossed out by the white stuff I chucked off the entire section. But with this little one I don’t have the same option (or rather, if I chuck it off I won’t have much left to work on lol)…

By the way, I used the same method same jar same water to propagate my golden many times before, all went well never had this happen.

So I’m seeking help from the experienced: what is this white thingy and should I be concerned? Is there any solution to this besides scissors ✂️?

I really want this lil one to survive as this is my only non-golden 😫

Thanks in advance!

At first glance I thought perlite was stuck to the vines, but as you said it is water propagated, I am going to guess that I was wrong.
Did you by any chance use a rooting hormone? It looks similar to new root growth/root buds I have had at times when I use clonex. I haven’t used it on a pothos though, so I’m not sure if that is what you are looking at.
Also, are the white bumps mushy? Firm? Mushy would probably be some sort of infection, but firm growth may well be healthy plant tissue.

Nope, totally health. It’s callus, which is undifferentiated plant stem cells. Soon it’ll explode with roots. Don’t give up

Those are the beginning of your secondary roots. Freaked me out at first too.
