hi everyone and welcome to my garden
today we’re going to tour the New Garden
space and talk about the plans for the
future raised vegetable and cut flower
garden as well as the Orchard and more
so let’s go ahead and get
started hi everyone and welcome to the
very first YouTube video for the lovely
Garden life um in this video I’m going
to show you the new area that we’re
going to grow in this season season so
last year we moved from a Suburban
backyard to a more rural area and we
have about 60 Acres here uh when we
first got to this land all of this was
trees and so we
did um clearcut this part of the land so
that we could have a garden space and an
orchard when I first walk into the
Garden area this very first part is
going to be the new chicken CPE so we
have six Americana chickens right now uh
but we will be expanding that and so we
have several new chicks coming in the
next few days and over this next month
so that we’ll have a variety of colors
in our uh egg basket so right now we
have a lot of Blues and greens and so I
want to get um Tans and Browns and pinks
coming this area is the raised bed area
of course um and these are 4 by8 raised
bed kits from Gardener Supply and so we
put all of these together we’ve got them
all aligned with a
string um alignment on the side there
you can see the
stakes and so my vision is that this
will be gravel in the paths I’m going to
put weed fabric down and then put gravel
on top um and these are going to be for
vegetables and cut
flowers the Border edges I’m going to
plant um some Evergreens I was thinking
maybe because we’re in uh Zone 8 Camas
for winter interest maybe butterfly bush
for late summer
interest um possibly vum for spring
interest and so and and box always looks
good of course too if I could get maybe
some small winter gym box or something
at the bottom of this area or at the end
part where you’re looking at right
now um at the tree line is going to be a
where I’m going to put the greenhouse
and then I think out to the side one
side will be um a farm table for uh
having dinners or sitting and
uh enjoying being out in the garden much
farther beyond the tree line that’s the
loop garden and we’ll look at that um
later but that’s another area that we
had some trees removed uh we have almost
all 60 Acres is wooded so we have a lot
of beautiful dog Woods you can see in
the background there um we have a lot of
pine trees some oak trees hickory trees
um so this part right here though will
be the greenhouse and I’ve already
gotten it it’s a black uh framed
Greenhouse so we’ll be putting that
together and um seeing how that works
out it’s just a starter Greenhouse so
but I’m excited to to have it um here
you can
see as we walk this
way this is a path that goes into the
loop
garden and I’m still trying to figure
out all of the light
requirements um around here so I’ll
definitely have plenty of space for uh
shade plants and sun plants and part
shade I’ve I’ve got it um lots of
possibilities here I will say the rais
beds are about 10 ft apart and the
reason why is because where we are um we
definitely have things like copperheads
and um water moccasins although we don’t
have a big Pond we have a a small little
creek here but um so we don’t really
have a lot of that but I know we have a
a neighbor’s um dog who got bit by
Copperhead and so I just want to be able
to see visually where I’m walking and
what I’m reaching into and everything so
in my last Garden the raised beds were
much closer together and that was fine
um but here we’re a little bit more
rural like I said there’s a lot of
wildlife here we have a lot of coyotes
raccoons uh things like that so I have
to watch out for my chickens with the
Predators but this is um the shed the
addition here and so this just came last
week finally it took us 3 months to get
it delivered even though we had uh had
it ready to get here 3 months ago but
the with the rain and everything it’s
taking a while so um this is going to be
the Flower
Shed and it’s going to look out as I um
move out here you can kind of see that
the area around it I’m probably going to
put a fire pit area on one side and the
other side I’m going to put a potting
bench area maybe like a U-shaped potting
bench area so I’ll have places for like
a nursery table for plants that I’m
working on or for seedlings that need to
come out to um harden off I’ll have um
the ins side to work on um when it’s
raining outside I can go inside and work
still for my garden and um enjoy all of
that I’ll probably put a table right out
front so I can also do some potting up
there um and
then all through this space and the is
going to be the orchard uh so we can
grow uh so many different fruits and
vegetables here in zone 8 the ones that
I um will are not necessarily hearty
like citrus those may need to go in the
greenhouse for the winter but for the
most part cherries apples uh peaches
pears plums all of those things
blueberries raspberries blackberries
those things grow well here uh so we’ll
be adding
that uh and I think that I will do uh
two rows uh or two sections so the left
hand side and the right hand side
leaving the center aisle free uh which I
may do as gravel or may do as grass as
we move around here uh you can see more
border eding of woods and there is
another pathway there so I’ll probably
put some type of little gate there I
will need to put um deer fencing up
because we do have a lot of deer now
they don’t come up closer to where our
other fencing is yet yet because that’s
where we also have the
dogs and so um so far so good but I do
see deer tracks out here as well so that
will be something that we have to work
on I do want to put in um grape Vines
and uh some things like that that I had
at my other house um and go ahead and
get those established so I know uh since
we’re we’ve just been out here less than
a year um
and last year this area was not cleaned
out so I was not able to plant anything
uh
but I know one of the first things that
I want to get started is are my fruit
trees because they take just a few years
right to to start producing so I’ll go
ahead and get some of those on order and
get those planted uh in the springtime
here as much as I can and it’ll just
have to be something that I add to I’m
thinking about putting wood mulch uh
under the tree area or the fruit Orchard
area and we do have access to free chip
drop here and so I will probably be
signing up for that I’ve already checked
into it and get some of those things now
this is a a pretty path that we have
here and I think I could do a lot with
this area as I look back at the
Garden um and I could plant along here
again I like the nice wide pth paths so
I can see where I’m stepping and what
I’m stepping into um or
near uh and as I go down this way so
this is what we call the loop garden and
I call it the loop Garden because I like
to walk around and do exercise this way
and it used to be more trees in the
center um that we’ve we’ve taken out and
then we have this path it’s a very wide
path as well um that goes all the way
around this Center area and then it
hooks back around to our driveway there
the loop and um it’s a nice round path
that comes back around in front of the
house and so we can Walk This Way um to
exercise or get some fresh air or
something like that so I do have on on
the sides I have possibilities here I
think I want to plant some red bud trees
and um some um Jane magnolia trees maybe
dotted alongside the edges like I said
we do have some of the dog Woods uh that
are starting to bloom here and those are
sort of dotted every so many feet on
either side of
the uh driveway and so I would like to
add possibly some more of those and then
we have these spaces where I do have
some trees um and I would like to work
on
planting up underneath these trees there
are so many leaves on this property
because there are so many trees and
they’re
beautiful but I do want to work on
cleaning up some of this
underground uh under under tree canopy
mulch natural mulch of the the leaves
and maybe get some pretty things planted
along here uh I think I also would like
to put additional pathways through this
area so if you could imagine maybe a
curvy path going through right here to
connect different parts of the loop uh
or um with the driveway I think I would
also like to put some Pathways curvy
Pathways in these areas as well and I
very much love uh the idea
of uh having Garden rooms and so that’s
a possibility too this is a pretty large
open space here the Orchard and the
vegetable flower cutting Garden that
area is about half an acre and then I
would say
probably 3/4 of an acre out here that’s
um free in the loop guarden maybe a
little bit more maybe an acre um so it’s
actually more space than it looks like
on camera
I think as far as filling up with plants
and so that’s why I’ve done so much
seeding um this this year this season
I’ve got so many things growing um
because it will be a lot to try and fill
in but for instance I could work on
small spaces um and show you know how
these areas develop and so this area is
one in particular and if you’ll notice
there’s so much just Brie everywhere
because there’s so many woods and
they’ve been here for so long and um so
many plant um not too many plants there
are some
plants um that are weeds but there’s so
much um broken limbs or you know Leaf
debris those kind of things and so I
would just love to work on some of these
different
areas you can see here there are so even
though they’re not in the garden area
they’re visible from the garden area and
so I would like to you know work on
cleaning these up and of course this is
going to get a lot more difficult as the
um season changes so I really have to
take things a little piece at a time and
just do a little bit and see if I can
get something accomplished or something
done but the great part about that is
that I love to do it so um I really
enjoy gardening it makes me happy and
gives me something to focus on um
outside of work and things like that and
so I really find a lot of peace and and
enjoyment in the
garden and so I hope that um if you
enjoyed this and you want to see how all
of these areas
transform over this next year in the F
season Seasons coming up you know I hope
you’ll join me um in this and follow
along subscribe to this new channel and
until next time I hope your lovely
Garden brings you
Joy
