  1. Why not put in a low fire bowl in the circle of the brick border! since yahll sit in that area and it won’t block the greenhouse

  2. There seem to be other trees and big shrubs by that locust that are certainly going to cast shade in that area. As for the viburnum, at least in the mid west, they are totally happy to be living in full sun.
You may not need to move anything at all.

As for the double file viburnums, they can get 10 to 15 FEET tall. I have one that I've pruned into a tree that is at least that tall. In your already tightly planted space I'd guess you do not want/need more of them.

The narrow Jubilee Weeping Alaskan cedar you have spaced as if the blue spruce's size is static. In reality Jubilee will be at least 12 feet wide and the blue spruce will keep getting wider, so running into each other is a given. Iseli Nursery says "Garden Size" is 25 high and 12 wide and 15+ inches of growth per year and it is a large plant. Reading on their website under "garden size", it says
"Using basic math skills, the gardener may easily estimate not only the age of the specimen they are currently viewing but also how large it may become in 5,10, 20 or more years". "We have also established a Garden Size designation for all our plants, defined as the size of the a plant when it has matured to an age and dimension that it has optimum architectural and aesthetic use in the average garden."

In other words, this tree does NOT STOP growing at 25 feet high and 12 feet wide. It WILL be growing at a rapid rate of more than 15 inches per year and using math is how the size over time is estimated. Their definition of "Garden Size" is a totally ambiguous and arbitrary set of numbers, as who is to say when it IS at its optimum architectural and aesthetic size??? What those numbers do not mean is, the plant will stop growing when the tag numbers are reached.

  3. Hey Laura, the crabapples behind the Hartley look like lollipops and are beautiful. Do you need to trim them in a ball every year after they bloom to keep their shape? I have two in 36” pots and are starting to get leggy. BTW, love your videos.

  4. Love those cats ! Whimsy at its finest. CUTE Douglas follows you through out the tour. Little cutie adores you.❤❤❤

  5. Your gardens are just beautiful! I have a hellebore that gets full sun with a southern exposure and it is big and beautiful. I think you should leave them and see what happens. I’m zone 6b

  6. Lamium planted along the inside edges of the west side boxwood hedge like a sparkling silver, edge softening shadow! 💚💚💚

  7. I love that Aaron is adamant with his opinion! He has some great ideas but I have to agree with Laura! I love the rocker bench!

  8. Where’s Cheddar? 🐈 I miss seeing all three 😻 so pretty all so green thank you for this tour loved it guys🥰Karen from down under 🐨🦘🇦🇺

  9. Omg the fart conversation had me dying. I had to play it for my honey because we have totally had those conversations. He claims he doesn’t fart but he does when he sleeps and usually I’m all cuddled up to him, ewe and then I say did you just fart on me and he starts laughing!

  10. Why not at 42:40 (where Laura is standing) plant another boxwood to cap off the fireplace area and remove the boxwood line thingy on the right🤔. You could (behind the fireplace) create another small pathway to replace what you would lose ultimately making the space make more sense. Also, at 41:19 why not (between the large cement pot and the spot where the bench is currently placed) put the bench in the corner and put a flat trellis behind it. It might make the benches look like they belong a little more as well as catch your eye. Especially if you plant something beautiful on the trellis😍!!! I know I'm kind of giving a lot of suggestions😆, but do you think the wisteria could be trained into a tree even in its old age. It might make it look less perched out there.

  11. Loved watching you two plan thru the bench dilemma, bouncing ideas off each other inspires. Like the 4 bench idea , wonderful place to watch the kiddos play.

  12. Everything Laura does is so cute! Even the pep in her step walk! Love these tours.

Officially in my 8 month of my 2nd pregnancy with a 15 month old stealing a lot of my gardening energy but determined to have at least something this year!! I always feel inspired watching this channel that even though he is due in prime gardening season I can still have some sort of garden this season. Plus a very sweet husband that will help make sure because he values what I value 😊

  13. Question- in the empty circle by the Hartley, would you ever consider a round formal pond instead of a fountain? Could be raised or in ground, but would be a great place to try out a lotus/ new aquatic plants!!! 🪷

  14. I would like to see a gazebo somewhere on the property in the space towards the end of the video! I'm not thinking of found of some sort would go beautifully in that brick area.

  15. I still think that you need to put a huge round table in that one spot in the center of the new brick patio, you have many beautiful things to look at from that spot including the Hartley. What a beautiful spot that would be for fine dining, relaxing and star gazing, it would be so elegant!!!

  16. i like Aaron's idea for the benches and the boxwood's. the rockers should come out of the dirt, whatever you do will look great as always

  17. Loved seeing the interplay between you and your hubs! Re: the round area/circle, instead of a regular fountain that might block the view, dig down to make a bit of a pond then have water shoot up so it does not obscure the view. Also, pls blur out your license plates for safety! love you guys!

  18. Move that crab apple make that whole area a PAPER BIRCH GROVE!!!!!!! Like 250 white birches!!And more easten redbuds!!!
Put a pondless waterfall in the middle circle of the patio!!!

  19. I love the idea of extending the brick and flagstone. Love the idea of looking out the kitchen window to see a full bouquet of flowers. Even love the fart conversation!

  20. I really think low concrete platform benches without back support look the best underneath the maples at 48:51 instead of metal benches. It would really marry the look on the others side of the sidewalk with the concrete urns. Also, they wouldn’t be distracting when you look from behind the boxwoods without blocking the beautiful flowerbeds.

  21. Laura, have you considered moving the rocking benches to one side of the patio facing each other with a low table between. Or maybe taking them to the south garden. The garden tour was wonderful, and after an extremely difficult work day, it was much appreciated. ❤

  22. At 15:39 alongside the house there is an “A” frame house looking structure? Does anyone know what it is? Is it a cat house?
Thanks in advance for any answers! 🌸👩‍🌾

  23. Maybe put a black piece of furniture or a short black baker’s rack under kitchen window? I would put in a new tree. That shady area is one of my favorites in your garden.

  24. The garden is looking great, as always. Shame about the tree you will have to take out but I'm sure Aaron would love a full-on outdoor kitchen setup for barbecuing 😂

  25. Watched to the end but in segments morning, noon and evening 😅. Beautiful! Was worth it ! Thank you !

  26. How do you keep your Hostas healthy through the warm days of summer? Even when I plant in a shady spot, I struggle with insects destroying the foliage.

  27. I think the benches in side garden would be beautiful. Maybe adding a low growing ground cover to mimick grass to give you the restful look you like and adding some green to contrast the black bench vs the mulch. The entire property has evolved so much over the years and is stunning.

  28. One day you may find yourselves embracing the asymmetrical and differences. At almost 68 I just love gardening. Rules be darned! Just enjoy!!!!Thank you for sharing everything! It’s beautiful and y’all are great!
